Anyone here have any experience with a JD #40 crawler dozer? I want something to help build a track on my lawn and shovels are way way way to slow. I can get a pretty good deal on one and I want to know what to look for and how well they run and anyother info anyone might have

That's an older model. Not going to be a lot of fun to work on. You might be better off looking for a 2010 crawler. They were built in the 60's, and parts aren't terrible to find. Plus it will have a lot more power in a relatively small package, which would work great on a track. Good luck in your searching.

Check for wear around the tracks (and the tracks) If the engine doesnt start without ethor then I wouldnt bother (to many mechines getting started with ethor and blowing pistons etc). Check for leaky hydrolic seals, hoses and fittings. Thats all I can suggest. Good luck!
