View Full Version : +3 a-arms?

12-27-2001, 12:38 PM
Does anyone have a picture of a 400ex with +3 a-arms? I have (tentatively) won an auction for some Burgards (any size) and I am not sure exactly what size I should get. I ride mostly recreational motocross, and a little trails, but I don't mind losing a little mobility (with the extra width), I mean, I don't mind not being able to go down the narrowest trail, so what size do you recommend?

That would work the best of both worlds +3 is very wide prob hard on shocks too a lot of leverage. The +2+1 would work very well in the woods on trials

i would get +2+1 unless u can't get new brake lines then just get +2... +3 would be cool but thats wide man...

i talked to houser racing and he told me +3 put alot of stress or something like it bumpsteered really easy or something. i can't remember what but if you have the money to get the shocks revalved or buy new shocks go +3

Well, right now I have stock shocks, of course I am not putting them on until I can get triple rates too. If I go +2 I don't need brake lines though, right?

+2 don't need brake line unless you go +1 forwards

Man, I wish we had a decent chat room. We have been replying to this and really should just be chatting.

Are the +3 arms long travel arms,,,if so they require 19 inch shocks not the standard 16 inch shocks,,,I'd go with plus 2 dude,,+3 is a little crazy unless you do nothing but race motocross and that's it.

I'll have some pics in a few days as soon as my shocks come

4130 Chromoly tubing is what these are made of. It that durable?

12-27-2001, 02:35 PM
Oh that's good stuff,,,but you don't want +3,,you mentioned trail riding,,if you put these on,,,your trail riding days are over..+2 will make you happy,,,I just went +1 and love it,,would rather have +2 but I also enjoy trail riding,,,like i said if unless you live in the desert or don't ride trails,,then go with +2,,and yeah the bumpsteer would be crazy on that I bet..trust me you need the +2,,but that's up to you..

I HAVE +3 1/2 AND +1 FORWARD WITH 1 INCH OFFSET ITS AWESOME , BUT I USE THEM FOR BAJA , YOU CANT COM[ARE TO TRAILS OR WOODS, BUT EVERYTHING IS PLUSH, I'D STICK TO +2 FOR YOU EAST COASTER, ITS EASIER FOR US WESTCOASTERS TO HAVE WIDE A-ARMS BCUZ WE DONT HAVE ALOT OF WOODS DOWN HERE IN SOCAL, BUT THEY ARE AWESOME

I'm considering Houser A-arms too, I would like +2 for Desert, but I also go to the track for MX, so who can tell me what differences are between +2 +1 and just plain +2 ? (Besides having to install new brake lines, I want performance diff's!!)
Thanks Pep.

If you throw +3 a arms on a stock 400ex frame won't it make it 51" wide? And I believe it is ilegall to race according to the AMA if your quad is over 50"? Am I right?

If I am not wrong, the +3's were originally designed for the aftermarket (laegar) 250r frames which were narrower than stock to make them as wide as stock style frames with +2s and they put LOTS of stress on a stock width frame, not to mention needing the long travel shocks and what not.
I would go with plus 2

Yeah, you are right thats why all the pro's have +3 a arms on there quads, because they have aftermarket frames which are alot more narrow than a stock frame. So that +3 makes up for the more narrow frame. If you take a +3 roll design bottom a arm designed for a lobo chassis and put it on top of a stock 400ex bottom a arm it will be +8 over stock, but that is because it is designed for a much more narrow frame.
