Are all dump trucks electric/hydraulic??? I mean the dump body on a F450 or F550 Or is the PTO style just for bigger trucks??

All the ones we get in the shop it seems to depend pretty much on the transmission...

The auto's are primarily electric/hydraulic, while the trucks with standard trannies are primarily PTO driven.. I always figured it was due to how easy it is to add the PTO to a std trans, as opposed to an auto..

Quite a few of the newer ones are starting to show up with an hydraulic pump that's driven off the engine by a belt (like an older plow rig).. I don't know what the advantage to this is, but I can see lots of disadvantages.

FWIW these are 250/350 Dodge's equipped with either dump kits for the box, or actual dump bodies.

We just put a dump body on a Ford "superduty" yesterday we put in a Hydralic/electric pump. Very easy to hookup with a nice remote in the cab.
