I was riding with my friend on his 400ex the other night and i noticed his headers were glowing red like they were red hot or something. It was pretty cold out, do you guys have any idea whats wrong here?

Nope, there's no problem at all. It is naturally, because there's hot exhasut gasses coming out of them. There made of thin wall stainless steel. It probably does it on everyone's 400ex's.

When I got mine our salesman said don`t get worried if your riding at night and the headers glow. He said it happens all the time.

Well, I've seen that happen myself and did not like it. You guys have to remember during the winter, the cold air WILL make your bike run leaner. Be sure to change your jetting accordingly. I found that if I put a stock airbox lid back on when its around 40 and below, my quad runs perfect again....no need to change jetting. This is why you guys see your header pipe glow when its cold out. I would not consider this a normal thing.....I dont think your exhaust valves will like those temps for a long period of time...

My wife is not a red head, but she glows when she is mad at me. I'd be careful with those glowing red headers!
