MY motor is stock right now except for a full exhaust a rev kit and a air filter. It needs a new top end. What I would like to know is what to put back in it? A 440 with a je 12.5 to1 ? I dont mind running race gas it would also be smart to run a heavy duty cam chain and put a IMS hot rod in it too right? What Cam? What kind of head work would you guy recommend? And who would you have do the porting? Also do you guys know if white brothers carrys everything that I will need? Thanks your response is appreciated !!!

What setup do you use for your 416? Cam, Head work , porting Carb and piston ratio? Also you have any problems blowing gaskets? About how much did it cost you to do it all? you think the reliability is close to that of a stock 400? What about it getting hot you notice it getting hotter wont you bored it?

I recomend the 440. I had a 416. Now a 426. I could still use more power. Go for the 440. If you ever want to go smaller a new sleeve is not that much.

will a 440ex beat a raptor? for a 600cc the raptor really isn't all that much faster than my bone stock 400. I might bore mine out if its gonna be faster.

A new OEM sleeve is just about 200 bucks and it cost 150-200 bucks to have it installed.:D

Wrong.
I had a new sleve installed for $200 total . Check LA sleeve or you can get a new cylinder from service honda for $225

I have a 426 in mine right now and hve had it in for about 8 months. I really like it. It will smoke my friends 440 in the top end but the 440 has more low end. He gets me off the line and when we hit the mid to top range I will pas him. I would go with the 426 again if I had to.

ok if i want to get a 426 kit how much will it cost for the kit and installed and be able to ride it. if i just buy the kit will there be to much pressure on like stuff in the engine will i have to like beef up the springs and chit in my engine?

yes

do it right the 1st time...

get yourself a good clutch...no matter what no one says that 426 kit will cause the clutch to either chatter or slip when you hammer down on her hard...especially running it all day....get the best piston.....je or ross

use the best shop to do the work or bore the cylinder....

while you have it apart....replace anything that makes you wonder....example....timing chain....it stretches.....do it right....ride it hard

Sounds like your friends quad isnt set up right or you guys have completely diff gearing.

The following is from the tech section titled "Ask Mickey Dunlap" and you should take the time to look over the info there.

I have read on the forums here how everyone thinks a 416 is faster and revs quicker than a 440 kit with the same compression. I think most people are not running as high a compression ratio with the 440 kits as they think they are and when you put a cam with it, you end up with lower cylinder pressure making the machine rev slower than the higher compression 416 motor. Just my thoughts anyway. Without talking to each individual, it's hard to figure out why people think the 416 is faster than the 440. Any time you put a longer duration cam in, you have less time to build cylinder pressure. This is why it's important to put a higher compression piston in when you install a longer duration cam. You can get more torque the higher you go on the compression ration and your cam will give you the mid-range to top-end without losing low-end.

I just broke in my 416 Saturday. I will have to say this thing pulls allot harder than the stock bore with a slip on and filter. Have not really reved up to to high except a few blurps when breaking it in, although after a 3 heat cycles i did ride it pretty hard So far I like this motor :D

What I did

JE 10.8-1 piston
HRC cam
Porting with new valve seals
New Timing chain
Heavy Duty Clutch springs & New cable.
Power Bomb Header

Maybe a new fcr 39 carb or a sparks carb mod to finish it off down the road.

Well here is what I think it was. We both have the same gearing. He was running a FMF system. Which is a bottum end system. My head is ported, his is not. I Ran the E-Series pro-meg
which has a lot better flow. He just got a pro-meg so it will be interesting to see who beats who now.

I need some help!! I can get parts from white brothers at a pretty good price threw a friend. What parts would you get out of a white brothers catalog to get the most horsepower and reliability as far as valves and what size valves springs etc.. ? From what I gather I want to go with a Je piston not the wiseco.
