How much will these following parts cost. Please help so I can have my quad fixed and back by spring.
330 kit-?
cam and rockers-?
lectron carb-?
proper jetting-?
And anything else you see that I don't have tell me.
This will be working with my white brothers pipe and k/n air filter
big bore kit from fst is 285.00
cam is like 129.00 in exchange for core
machined rockers are like 95.00
a larger carb will be 200.00 and up,and you wil be set-up with jetting if you buy a carb from fst,you can get a complete kit with the high flow exhust recommended for 800.00,that might include the port and flow job needed on the head, also you get a 350x intake boot, which is alot larger then stock....

Sounds good so about 800 will get it done for me.:D
if you want to get the most out of a big bore, you will have to spend like 800.00 sometimes more, thats why i see alot of people say "why dont you get a 400"but i like the under dog,and if you do it right it will run away from a 400ex,but before i recommend doing any engine mods, try suspension and get a wider axel and a-arms,,you can have a rocket ship, but the key is chassis,i can have a stock 300ex with works shocks and smoke a 400ex,difference is set up...remember that...usable and most important is controlable and usable not uless powerfull engines, look at the yamaha banshees down fall,,all it does is spin the tires half the power is wasted on it,,

Thanks alot you were really helpful.I am on a tight budget right now but as soon as I get it payed off (only 1500 to go) I am going to get the a-arms, shocks and axle.
What + a-arms and axle should I get.
I'm getting works dual rates with rezzies:D
if you are getting shocks get a ft/rear combo,it will take 2-3 weeks to get them after they are ordered, because they build them for you,,,a-arms that i recommend are hsdracing.com
or lonestar or roll design, you pay for what you get expect to pay 500.00 and up,anything cheaper is crap..stay away from durablue axle's,the chrome comes off and it does not fit properly, get a lonestar or dominator axle by rpm...
Dave400ex
12-26-2001, 06:53 PM
I would get Laeger a-arms and the RPM Dominator axle.
laegers are good, but roll design is the best you can get,the lobo package is the most high tech set of a-arms you can buy, lonestar is the best,i would rate laegers 3rd place,,,then you have all the cheap other new places coming out with a-arms,,they are built for making money and are not good quality,i build and race quads for a living,i have sold and tested many brands,,,,but as soon as you widen that bike,it will be night in day.your bike will float ..but the shocks must be added..you can get a good used set of 250r stock a-arms bolt them up to a 250x/300ex and add 2" to the ft.and run a good set of dual rates,to save money;)
Dave400ex
12-26-2001, 09:34 PM
I know Roll Design is the best but, Laeger is better than Lonestar. I don`t hear to much good stuff about Lonestar. There`s always stories of something bending or cracking. Most of the top Pro`s run Laeger. Plus he`s been around longer than anyone else has. I would rate Laeger second and Lonestar third. The Pro-Trax front end was the most high tech front end for years. Walsh is also very good.
i had a set of walsh craft from east coast atv, good set-up
i recommend lonestar beacause they had good service and built me a custom set of plus 4" a-arms for a blaster i was building here a some pics, let me know what you think

That looks sweet.
thanks,it cost like 8000.00 to build,,ended up putting a dt200r engine into chassis,,sold it for alot of money,,got a nice 450cc big bore warrior to,also a 300ex and a 250r all done with duncan..trying to get a duncan banshee going, but i have been buying rolling chassis from lonetar for a great price,so i will have to see what i can get a lobo chassis for
Dave400ex

You should build a Duncan/Roll Design/Custom Axis 440EX.
axis,or pep zero preloads,definitly

Hey danny, I can't go to your site for some reason.
Let's figure this up:
motor work: $800.00
a-arms: $500.00
axle; $300.00
shocks: $1000.00
1000
800
500
300
+ ____
$2,600:eek:
lord, that costs alot to fix a quad like you want.:(
yeah this hobby can get expensive,i spend thousands on quads, the most i spent yet was like 15,000 on my 330r..and like 8000.00 on a blaster, but when you got them hooked up they ride and the response you get is the best part, but i do have other bikes that i ride just to beat on,you wouldnt want to ride a chromed out/powdercoated quad all the time,i can kill a nice bike in 4 months,it would look bad,try to keep it simple, just to make the bike better for you,i would just recommend shocks..and a sticker kit seat cover, some nerfs and stuff like that, because you will have to spend more time fixing your tricked bike and cleaning it then riding..:blah
you can get a cheaper engine set up from tc
it comes with a piston that has notches in the dome area,a cam and a vavle spring set, what the cam does is push the valves futher in and allow for more duration-more gas/and exhust to scavage..the new piston allows the valves to seat into its pockets, raises your compression by 10psi,and the springs allow for proper tention with new cam..you should get a carb also, they have a good one that comes with this all for like 450.00,give tc racing a call and ask them about this kit,it would be less maintance and more reliable..i was interested in doing this mod also,i was playing with fmf megamax and a cdi,the bike is a slug with this pipe, but it is only for my winter rat and iam still faster then everybody i ride with, its funny cause they are used to me riding my evil creations, not a stock 300ex..but i l0ve it.i might get yellow plastics,,i only paid 3500.00 for 3 300ex's at a auction,i have been selling 2 of them on ebay and i kept one for the winter:eek:

Danny I've been to that site before.
I have been riding quads since I was five(a big red kawasaki) and love them.I hang out at the honda dealership and t and t motorsports ( it's a drag racing shop for quads) when most of my friends go to the mall.I would love to one day open my own honda dealership and repair broken quads only. (no dirt bikes)It has been my dream to actually own a sport quad since I was 10.I have lots of patience and a good work ethic.(I break horses to ride we have 20 of them and I rope steers in contest and have been in rodeos. It pays really good $300 bucks a horse to train to ride.)I would love to build my own engine because I am in ffa and have restored almost 8 antique tractors from the ground up.;)
sounds good, keep up the good work, and dont let anybody tell you anything about quads, they rule, and if you want to make money fixing them,it pays,i do very well.just buy a manual for what ever bike you own and go over it and try to keep your bike good.you will get your money for it when you want a new one

Don't forget about shipping too, that will run you a few extra bucks,,,,,,I would just modify the chassis first, and what shocks are you getting for 1000$?
he could get a set of ft.dual rates with resi's for 475.00/and a rear replacement shock f0r 525.00

What is a good set of a-arms for jumping no more than 6 feet of air? What is a strong but lower price axle?
if you get the plus 4" axle first you can take the ft.rims and flip them around and add about 3" to your ft.of the bike try it,may add a little more stress to spindle but its a new bike and you dont jump 30 feet in the air.
Poncho
12-28-2001, 06:27 PM
danny whats a good cheap set of a-arms and axle that is built pretty good? But not real cheap crap.:D
you can get a set of burgard a-arms for 475.00
a good decent axle is a dura blue eliminator for 289.00,this stuff is not cheap and you pay for what you get,you best bet is to save and get the good stuff
Poncho

I look to have this 300 the rest of my life but I want to get a new quad in about 7-8 years so should I get the good stuff.

trust me you want want to keep it that long,i buy new one every 6months,ride a banshee, you would sell your bike in a second..
Poncho
12-28-2001, 06:53 PM
Hey danny do you trade alot?:blah
what kind of atv's have you owned?
i build quads all the itme,if they look like they are cheap fixes ,i fix them,if it is better to sell for parts,i part them out..
this month i have a 1989 blaster
3 300ex's
1999 yamaha blaster
1989 yamaha yz125
1989 rm 80
2001 banshee
ds 650 bombardier
honda cbr 600 f3
suzuki dr350
sold the trick blaster
330r,thats is for right now,but by mid jan i should have a different set of bikes,i will only hold onto the 300ex for the winter and my girls blaster...
:huh
i have had a lt250r,160 quad sport, another lt250r,350x,200x,250x,300ex,250r damn all most every atv/atc made,my favorate is the blaster and 300ex,and banshee, well i love them all, every bike has its special points, and they are all good..
Poncho
12-28-2001, 07:26 PM
How much do you want for the ds (just curious) Have you rode the ds much around your shop.Do you like it.;)
Dave400ex
12-28-2001, 08:17 PM
Danny, what shocks do you think are the best?
i love the ds,i put new alba a-arms to fix steering,a stabilizer, white brothers pipe, and more it hauls and will beat all the bikes that are out..it is going for 6500.00
warrior man,i would say axis is the best right now,and i like elka, and also pep zero preload, works are good cheap replacement shocks..but axis is the best you can buy,but man they are expensive..i mostly use pep and works....
Dave400ex
12-28-2001, 09:15 PM
Have you ever set a quad up for XC racing? All the top GNCC Pro`s run Axis. I would love to have them, but they are very expensive. How do you like the PEP`s?
that is my favorate riding,i mostly ride trails/and some small dune spots, but iam looking forward to building a 330ex for next year to race cross countryonce i get a little more settled with my money and life,i will defintly get into it,i do have a mx track,i might do that to..so much to get into, there is hope for this sport, just when i think it is getting taken away, because all my close riding area's are getting shut down..there is a new track opening everywhere..
pep zero preload are sick,,i was clearing a 70 foot triple at this track near me,with out any trouble, its like landing on pillows, seriously:D
Dave400ex
12-29-2001, 11:09 AM
Do you think the PEP ZPS shocks would work good for XC racing?
400exRacerX
12-29-2001, 11:45 AM
All those motor mods are gonna cost you more than $800 if you can't figure out how to install them.
MR. HONDA EX'S

Danny, Can you post a pic of your 330r? My buddy has a 250r that's set up for XC. I'll try to get some pics and get one of the guy's on this site to post a few pics for me.:D
warrior man, works would be a good aftermarket replacement..and 400ex racer is right,i dont think he might be able to install the parts properly, unless he has a manual and understands mechanics..
i will be riding it tommorrow and will take some pics...of it

I just payed 600 dollars on my 300 so maybe by next year I will be able to put fullbore blue plastics and paint my frame white!:D
waste of money unless you are not going to ride your bike, full bore is expensive and cheap..spray paint does not hold up,powdercoat, that is the only way to go,
Poncho
12-31-2001, 07:30 AM
I thought fullbore was really good plastic:( I have a spray gun and was going to paint the frame with better paint than just a spray can;) Or should I get arms, shocks, and axle I just can't decide.

Dana Creech's blue 400 and 250 r
Duncan 440ex
Rico's 400
William yokley's kx250
Tim Fars yz
Bill Ballance 250r
Travis Spaders 250r
cannondale moto 440
Honda 416ex
Honda 310R:p
Honda 330ex
Duncan Banshee
Raptor 720
cr450r
yz426
hahaha i wish!!!
the 426 is a nice 4-stroke engine, wish yamaha would of done that instead of a craptor, but i heard from a little bird,i have close yamaha friends in the buisness, that yamaha will be releasing 2 new models
<sport>,and hopefully honda with stuff the new crf in a new designed 250r styled bike,,the future will tell,,i saw the new suzuki at the bike show by me,its ugly and looks cheap, they also had a limited edition raptor coming out in march,it all carbon fiber and everything is powdercoated black, when i get my pics back tommorrow i will post a pic of it,,,

Sounds good danny!
Get some more info on the two new quads!:D
what i have heard is the banshee will end it rain in sales, they are going to stop making them in like 2005-6,no more blaster either,so the banshee is going to get revised for 2003-or 04',it might be powervalved of have all type's of new mods.the blaster is not getting anything, instead yamaha is working on a mid-sized 4-stroke quad..in the 250-300cc range, and sooner then we think the 426 will see its way in a quad chassis, honda may be the first to drop there new 4 stoke in a quad chassis, yamaha has been kicking honda *** for a while now, with there quads, they have the biggest sport line up.but honda lays low and does there how work, the 400ex was in development for like 8 years before released,,so just sit tight, look to see something real soon, and kawaski, polaris are dropping some new stuff soon to,,the sport is getting bigger, and it looks like the factorys will be supporting there factory quads in races, suzuki to follow in cannondales foot steps, kawaski has been it it for a minute, will honda and yamaha follow?:devil
Dave400ex
01-01-2002, 03:00 PM
Sounds good Danny. I hope all that stuff happens. My neighbor is getting one of those Limited Edition Raptors.
they are sharp, but i still wont buy one,i would rather ride my 300ex.i will ride my banshee forever, because there will never be anything like it,,i will start collecting all the older 2 strokes, and fully restore them and hide them..i love 2-strokes and it looks like they are going to die out, untill a newer cleaner burning 2 stroke engine comes out, near future we should see from honda.:huh
Poncho
01-01-2002, 05:55 PM
I would love to have a banshee, oh well maybe one day.:(
stick with your 300ex,banshees are are like a women, you have to fanese to ride the engine powert right, and you must keep it maintained or it will treat you like crap,i put my fmf exhust and k&n in today, got the jetting correct, got to order the cdi,it sounds good now,but man was it cold out,but i had a good time anyway:huh

If you get the full TC Racing 330 Motor, that thing will just rip.
it would be a fast bike, but suspension should be first,i will be playing with the 300ex engine in the up coming weeks,i have 2 300ex's engine to play with, and 1 250x,each i will set up differently, first thing i will do is get the thumperracing kit by this monday,,and a oil cooler, then test it on a dyno, then get a tc kit,or the whitr brothers..
Poncho
01-01-2002, 07:41 PM
I've been thinking that when I get my truck I'll just borrow enough to get a new quad. Here's the choices...
400ex
pipe
jet kit
k/n filter
works tripple rate shocks (just front)
+2 a-arms
+4 axle
or
Cannondale cannibal:rolleyes:
I just can't decide!
Maybe I should ask sleeping catfish his opinion on the cannibal.:D
Dave400ex
01-01-2002, 07:52 PM
Get the 400ex and mod it out....
Get a Pipe (TC Racing)/K&N Air Filter/Outerwear/Jet Kit.
Works Tripple Rate Fronts with Rezzies.
Laeger or Houser +2 A-Arms.
RPM +4 Axle.
Then you would need Nerf Bars, Tether Kill Switch, and Headlight Covers to Race.

I even dreamed I went and bought a 400ex the other night and I has racing against Rico and riding wheelies in this guys yard.:huh
What I can dream sometimes is crazy!
i agree get a 400ex,its alot better power wise and handle's great i had one back when it first came out, loved it,just sucks it doesnt have reverse,
warrior man what oil eould you recommend running in my 300ex,and what wieght for winter
stay away from the cannodales, they sucks, all my friends are always break there fx's and iam tired of fixing them..they are fast but i feel to much for what they are..get the craptor if you want to go fast, they had there share of problems to,but at least everythingwas corrected

My dad runs practically runs an oil company and delivers gas all over kentucky to almost 180 stores. He is a dispatcher and is head over 40 guys and he brings home shell 10w40 and it seems to work great in my ex.;)
Just my 2 cents.:)
Dave400ex
01-01-2002, 08:09 PM
Right now I run Golden Spectro 10w 40. When I run out of the Golden Spectro I`m going to use Maxima. I would either use Maxima or Klotz. That`s what all the Pro`s use. I don`t know what weight to run. I don`t change. I use 10w 40 year round. The 10w 40 is for the range of 10* to 100* plus. That`s in my range. I don`t think I will be riding below 10*.
thats cool, sometimes it is best to run the same stuff always,i will have to change wieght but,i do it in my street bikes,i will have to do it for my 2-stroke bikes and my 300ex,,i will see what i will run tommorrow, thanks for the info

I want to know what you think about the TC Racing Engine.
i put in my order for a fst kit,and i should have my tc racing kit by tommorrow,,so far i like the feel of my bike with
fmf megamax all dics and spark arrestor
k&N airfilter with air lid on
put a 128 main and a 42 pilot, runs good, but ignition box doesnt allow the bike to rev out,but the tc racing kit comes with cdi box
i got a new piston, cam, spring kit,cdi box and a 32mm carb kit..the other is a 330 fst kit..i have to order a oil cooler from jagg also,,got the works shocks coming, paid 600.00,i got a set of dual rate fts and a rear replacement shock..also i plan on powdercoating it metalic red, with the new yellow plastics or go with a all black plastic set up again,,,later on i will follow with a-arms and other stuff,,still want to play with engine first, also looking for a 350x engine i have a rolling chassis and i have an idea
Dave400ex
01-02-2002, 08:02 PM
Sounds good. Is the TC a 330? How do you get Parts at dealer cost? I would love to fix up quads for fun like you do.
i have a dealer lisensce,i have my own aftermarket quad shop,i do it for a living,i make my money from atv's its great, pays pretty good, and its never boring, the tc kit i got is not a 330,but a piston and cam mod,,,has a cam/spring kit that allows valves to stay open longer and push futher open, the piston has deaper pockets so it doesnt contact valves, the 32mm feeds the added room for flow, put a 350x intake boot, stock is too thin,,the key with the piston is it has a lighther wieght, and less wieght more more power, also doesnt effect compression,so no more heat is created and the stock crank can be retained..i will also have to port the head,it is restricted, but i hate using the flow bench..pain in my ***,i miss the 2 -strokes
Dave400ex
01-02-2002, 08:34 PM
That would be the coolest job in the World. Could you sell me parts?
whatever you need,i got everything, also full powdercoat/chrome/etc...all the good stuff, full engine work, you name it,,,by spring i should be settled and fully up and ready to get big..takes time and winter sucks..i also do street bikes, alot of money in that field
Dave400ex
01-02-2002, 08:46 PM
How much would a set of PEP ZPS Fronts cost? Could you Convert my Stock Shock to ZPS? If you can, how much would that cost?
i wouldnt recommend them to you,you would have to be a racer, not for trials or recreation,a better set for you would be a set of dual rates with resi's for 500.00,and a rear shock revalve, with a new ebach spring for 150.00 parts and labor, after these mods the bike would run like a cadi,i would send them out to works takes 2 weeks for them to build the shocks for your wieght and riding style, now pep zero preload's ft.only can run to 995.00 a pair and more:eek: stock ft.s cant be modified only rear.they are not rebuilable.the stock 400ex shocks are good but,why would you want to change them, unless you race or jumo really high, really is the key word
Dave400ex
01-02-2002, 09:14 PM
I asked Mark Baldwin about getting PEP Shocks. I told him I thought about getting the Limited Mass and then down the road converting them to ZPS. He told me to just get the ZPS. To convert the Limited Mass to ZPS costs $465. I think I want the PEP ZPS. I don`t race yet, but I want to race XC when I`m old enough. I don`t want to take the cheap way out. I`ve heard all kinds of good stuff about the ZPS. 86atc250r is getting them from Baldwin. I want to hear what he has to say about them because he races XC. I will race XC someday, so I would rather just spend more money and have the best. What do you mean by "Why would you want to change them, unless you race or jump really high". The Rear PEP Conversion is like a Rebuild. They set it up for you. He just changes stuff in the shock to make it Zero Preload. Do you understand why I want the PEP ZPS? I`m going to race XC, and I want the BEST.
i thought you were just doing regular riding, its is like 1000.00 and up for the set of pep zero preloads, you will love them.what they do to your shocks is change shim stack and change valving, and spring rate,,baldwin knows his stuff..

DannyDone, Sorry for the confusion. I will be racing XC. That`s why I want the PEPs. I know from Baldwin the Front ZPS Shocks are $895 and the Rear Conversion is $425. What`s your prices Danny? Thanks.
it would be same cost and set up..around 1100.00 shocks and labor,i could get a set of dual rate ft's with out resi for 310.00,works prices went up this year, they used to cost 285.00

You have a Place to Dyno them? That would be sweet. You should get a 400EX and build a TC XC Motor. Then I could see the Power difference over stock.
i have a friend with a 440 ex built by ctracing,it has 44h.p,it i never riden a faster ex,,,it smokes everybike, except the raptor and ds 650,,the banshee holds up but when the dust settled it was far behind..i dont really do alot of 4-strokes,i like the 2 strokes,my 330r is away for the winter,so iam playing with the 300ex as a winter bike,i had a 400ex,but i would rather ride the blaster i sold and the 330r.300ex is cool, but lacks in power and stability iam used to,again iam not used to stock bikes..it is sometimes fun to step down to a stocker,i do that every once and a while,my friends laugh at me,but.

Hey danny did you do anything to your 300ex's today?;)
i ripped 2 of them down to the bolts, one complete bike is on ebay as parts, the other is being gone over and rebulit tommorrow,i sent the cyclander to be bored out, head to be lapped and have new valve guides installed and cut a 45 degree cut <3 angle vavle job>done....i have to put new wheel bearings in,i might powdercoat-maybe,but i might wait till spring.i will keep you posted,by monday or tuesday i will have it finished
i got everything together today and got to ride it before the rain and snow here,,,,,this is the tc piston-cam kit i was speaking about,,,,,,,i was very impressed with it,very,,,it pulls from the bottom to top, gave the engine more torque, mid hit is so much better it feels like the 400ex,,,i was riding with my girlfirend on back i didnt want to beat it to death yet,but i did break it in and raced my friends 400ex with the girl on the back,,,held up from bottom to i would say i hit 5th gear after that 400ex peak power it a little bit better,,i would say i was behind about 2 cars lenghts at full throttle behind..i still have more to go,and remmember i didnt kit a big bore or raise compression yet, like i said before the ex is resricted and needs more air flow,,i was definitly inpressed with its power, and more is to come..i will have to run this on the dyno before i do anymore.

Sounds good. I bet a 330 would have some real arm pulling power. Let us know what else you do.
i need to put a jagg oil cooler in,,iam looking into a stroker kit to match the 330 kit...and i need to get a hinson basket,i dont think stock can handle what i have now
