VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Redbird State Recreational Area. All dates need an RSVP so we can organize and plan workloads.

If you need directions to these areas or want to RSVP, please contact: Gary L DeLong @ dirt2002@juno.com.

Finish the GPS work on trails. Vehicles with or w/o units needed. Quads, dirt bikes and 4x4.
Start time: 10:00 am

May 10th Saturday - Redbird SRA, Dugger, IN
Put in two culverts on trails and fabric fence to control erosion on the NW side of meadow. Need a piece of equipment that has a backhoe that can get into the woods in tight areas.
10 quads to help carry and install trail signage.
Tools: T-post drivers, shovels, cordless drills w/bits.
Start time: 10:00 am

Fence post work along South and East county roads. 100 posts to put in, 6” to 8” in diameter.
Quad riders needed to install boundary markers and put up snow fence to close off railroad track trails. If you have a trailer to pull behind your quad that would help in moving materials and tools.
Tools: Power posthole digger and shovels.
Start time: 10:00 am

May 24th – 25th Saturday – Sunday - Redbird SRA, Dugger, IN
Any left over construction, trail, or signage issues.
Start time: 10:00 am both days

May 31st – June 1st - Redbird SRA, Dugger, IN
Final touches before Grand Opening. A crew leader from DIRT or IFWDA will be present all week at property site. E-mail for details of any unfinished business.

Construction starts on the parking area Monday, April 21st.
Please stay out of the meadow! The Conservation Officers will be issuing tickets if you’re on that site.

Note: Don’t bring your favorite chainsaw. April through September it is illegal to cut a tree down on state and federal property due to Indiana Brown Bat habitat.

Supplies needed, if anyone knows where to get steel railroad rails at a great price (free works too) please let Nila Armstrong DNR know. Contact her at 317-232-4070 or e-mail at narmstrong@dnr.state.in.us

Your past and present commitment to this project has been overwhelming, it has made a very big impression to the powers that be. It has opened up other avenues for future sites and has given the creditability to show others we can do it!

THANK YOU ALL
