You do realize your in a honda forum don't you? well anyway give us more detail, when does it's blow off the carbs? what have you tried to correct it, have you gone to the dealer, do you have any airbox mods? etc

ya i was racing a raptor through the feild given it a run for its money and right at the end the carbs blew off. It made me feel good that i could give the raptor a run for the money but i felt bad about his carbs but thought it was funny at the sme time. The guy i raced is a real pain and that tought him to shut up but i like the raptor.

Yamaha has a fix out for this I believe (different carb boots and pilot jets, I think)..

I'm sure guy660r has the info..

Turn up your idle. That thumb screw on the left side of the bike with the silver plate on it (behind the fuel shut-off about 6 inches back). It was months ago but Yamaha released a technical memo informing their service departments to turn up the base idle to curb this problem. You go from like 1800 RPM to 2200 RPM or from 1400 RPM to 1800 RPM. I can't remember exactly but I know it was about a 400 RPM jump. Unless you have one of those fancy tools where you can check RPM I'd suggest just using the old human ear. Also, the carb boot clamps have a small metal spacer that keeps you from overtightening. Remove these spacers and give the clamps a few extra turns. All of this stems from the bike being notoriously lean from the factory. Go up on the pilot, raise the needle one notch (or lower your clip depending on your perspective) and jump up on the main. I must've gotten extremely lucky with my bike. Always heard about the lean problem with the Raptor but when I finally checked my plug one day I'm running on the rich side. My plug is always dark brown, bordering on black, all over the spark plug with it being brown like a candy bar around the electrode/ground strap area.

Check your carb boots to make sure they're not torn, seems to happen to people and they don't know it. I'd be willing to bet that if the carb boots aren't torn that removing the spacers and turning up your base idle will cure your problem.

Toad,

I think there is a dealer repair for this. I think they revised the carb boots sometime in 2001. It should be of no cost to you. Some of my friends have also replaced the clamps. On some 2001's the carb boots are the least of your worries. If the tranny ever starts to "slip" in second, or skip second altogether, its $800 to get new gears from Forten racing. So far Yamaha is doing nothing. I personally know 2 people who are having to replace theirs. One of them knows a 3rd. This is all within a 25mile radius and all with different riding styles. Check out Bluetraxx.com.

Good Luck.

turn the idle up a little bit my friends did it to they wont do it no more its when it idles too low it allows the reversion of the compression and will blow them off every time and I have seen them split the intake boot.
