I went out on my 400 for the first time the other day and the parking brake is already gone. If I were to leave things the way they are and not get a block off plate are there any disadvantages?

well besides looking crappy, not really. You shed a few pounds when you pull all that junk out and it really cleans up the rear end a bit, they are only like 12 bucks i did mine just to make it look better

well, if you dont use the plate, the lil rod on your piston will stick out and the lil o-ring inside the grove of the rear caliper will be in some danger (mud, sticks, sand, ect).
Dont be cheap, Buy a plate :)

lol, yea I am just wondering if there was any drawbacks if I left everything as is not removing it and not covering it up, I read somewhere It could waste your pads but I found that hard to believe, if I did remove it I would obviously put the plate on.

i can almost swear it will waste your pads twice as fast! I had my 400ex for 40 hours & the pads were gone. I put the brake block off on when I changed them & the same pads that were stock have now been on my bike for over 80 hours. Take that mofo off. its really worth it.

If you want to leave the assembly on and not hooked up, just back the adjuster all of the way out and safety wire it so it doesn't move in or fall out.

I noticed on my gf's 300ex, after you had the parking brake on, the pads would drag on the rear rotor. You had to get down there and manually back them off. I could see how it would eat up a set of brake pads real quick like. I'd get a block off, the parking brake is always out of adjustment anyway.

yes, it'll make them drag a slight amount even when its not engauged.
A parking brake has never worked on any honda quad I'd ever had :( :p
