hi, i just got a used 400ex, and the other day it would not start. we charged the battery and then found it to be a blown fuse by the battery. from what i know it should have a 15amp in it, but it had a 20amp. So i tried a 15amp, and the second i turned it on the fuse was blown. So i put a 20amp in and it ran. Is there just a bad ground somewhere or what? also there is oil leaking out around the crankshaft. i looked at a parts diagram, and there is a oil seal, could that be bad? if so how hard is it to change?

as for the oil leak, i'd say that a seal\o-ring is definately screwed. im not sure exactly how to remove the cover, etc..but im sure it is relatively easy if you have the basic tools and know how to use em...

BTW, what part of PA are you in?

From what you wrote, I would guess the starter is pulling higher than normal amps. Pull the starter, disassemble and clean. I bet it got water in it. Pull the side cover and change the oil seal. Check for up and down play in the crank bearing also.
