Need help getting spring into footpeg

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the spring to go in my Roll footpegs. Anyone have any suggestions? Can you install the footpegs without the springs? It's for a '86 250R, thanks.

Not for sure on the Roll pegs, but on stock pegs with springs I use a press to put a little pressure on the spring to get it all to line up for the pin to go through.
