I've done the searches, and I didn't get a really clear answer.

I have a 1987 250X that I want to upgrade. It's just an extra bike, in case I have a buddy that want's to go riding, so it's not really worth putting a ton of money into.

I can get stock A-arms for a 400EX or 250r much cheaper than aftermarket extended a-arms, and either would be wider than the stock a-arms on the 250x, correct? Which would be easiest to bolt on to the 250X? Can I use the spindles, brakes, and from the 250X, or will I need to get new ones along with the 400EX/250r a-arms?

I recall that the stock 250r shocks are shorter than the 400EX shocks. Can I use stock 250r shocks with 250r/400EX a-arms on my 250X?

I have a stock axle for a 250r, and will probably soon have a stock axle for a 400EX (I'm upgrading my girlfriend's quad). Can I use either of these on the 250X to widen the rear?

It's not worth it for me to start cutting and welding anything, but I have not problem grinding anything down to fit. I'm just pondering, since I already have a 250r axle, 250r front shocks, and 400EX a-arms, can I use any of these things on my little project 250x, effectively widen the wheelbase without a significant cost increase?

I beleive the 250r's a-arm bushings would have to be ground down to fit the 250x. But the 400ex arms work perfect. And thats all you need to put the 400ex arms on, no new brake lines or spindles, but you will need the 400ex or 250r tie rods. 250r shocks will fit up front without a bracket, but the ride hieght will be very high in the front. Making the steering very stiff along with the front wheels not getting much traction. The 250r or 400ex axles will not fit without a 250r or 400ex bearing carrier.:p
Hope that answered ur ?

What's the difference in the bearing carriers? The bearings are the same (as far as I can tell) so is the bearing carrier wider on the 250r than the 250x?

The 400ex/250r bearing carrier will not fit in the 250x swingarm. The 400ex carrier is wider than the 250x. If you are looking for a wider axle and don't want to spend the money on an aftermarket one, you might try looking for a stock 350x axle. The stock 350x axles are wider, adjustable and they will fit into the 250x carrier.

What about the front spindles, brake rotor, hub, all that junk. Can I use the stuff off my 250x with the 400EX a-arms, or will I need to replace that stuff with 400EX stuff.

"stuff" is one of those technical terms we use in the engineering field.:D
