View Full Version : What Tires should I Get?

I can get free tires through my uncle and I want to know what kind of tires I should get. I don't race and I occasionally go mudding. I want tires that will get me more traction in mud and in
dirt. What do you guys think?

Assuming that you do not like your stockers, or that you need new ones... I would recommend the same size tires that you are running for the type of riding you do.

Wow... There are soo many tires out there for you. If you don't have problems with flats, stay with a light weight tire... Going with a heavier "more ply" tire may rob some power from your 250ex.

If it means anything... If I could get free tires to get more traction, I would probably go with the new Maxxis Razr 2's!:D

razr or kenda knarlies

Knarlys handle like crap, but they HOOK UP in the mud. 20inch Knarlys would probably be a good mud tire for a 250ex.

I was thinkin about razr's too but would they be better in mud or should I just put the stockers on for muddin? Would razr's make it faster or handle better? What size should I get also? Would 20's rob power or should I stick with 22?

Thanks

I am running orig razrs now and the Knarly's hook up WAY better, but they handle WAY worse, but I was also running the 22 inch Knarlys. DO NOT get 22inch Knarlys they are friggin huge. Since you said you want something that will hook up in the mud and you are on a 250 I think either 20 Knarlys would be good - or 20inch razr2's like someone else suggested. Since the sur-trak/all-traks aren't available in a 20inch, I would say the Knarly's are the best traction tire available in 20". Notice I didn't say all around tire, but for hookin up on say, a muddy hill, I don't know of a 20" tire that could beat it. If you put aftermarket 22's on a 250 it will likely bog it down, almost all aftermarket tires are way heavier then the stockers.

Make it the XCR's. Go with the 22 inch tire because on a 250ex you can hit top speed rather quickly and with the bigger tires your top speed will increase. For the type of riding you do i bet you want more top speed then the low end power.

born to race, I HAD the 22 Razr's. I would recommend not getting them. They were fricking huge and weighed too much. They robbed some power too. On the other hand, when you got going, they tore some schiz up! I went to 20's on the tamers and I love them. You use all the gears and they take right off, no pauses. But, I don't do much mud riding so I went with the tamers. This is just all my opinion, but I had the 22's and it was way too much tire. I sold them after 5 hours of riding.:ermm:

Dont go with 6 ply either. Way to heavy.

Hey redroost85, do you have 20" turf tamers? If they're good in dirt I can just put the stockers on when I go muddin. Is there an increase in acceleration or power?

born-to-race, the 20' tamers I think are awesome! They are lighter than my old razr's. The quad really takes off on these and I use all the gears. The accelleration is very good. I can even get them to howl in the dry corners on the track, lol! And the are a pretty cheap tire. I like this rubber very much!:D

I got 22" Knarly on the back of a 250EX. I don't like the setup and I'm going to Ebay them as soon as I can get them cleaned up.

They do hook up in mud but they're huge for a 250EX IMHO.

My 300ex has Bandits on now, but am considering ITP Holeshots for Florida harescrambles. It feels like I am not hooking up. Any help would be appreciated.

If you get in the mud a lot, ITP Blackwaters are good. I don't know if they make them in your size though. I have a set mounted on extra wheels that I throw on my 400ex if I know I will be getting in some mud or slop. They are real aggressive and you can notice the roughness of the tread on dry or solid ground.

I would get razrs, holeshots, or turf tamers my friend has razrs and I have Turf Tamers and I think they are about the same.

I've run shredders for about 10 years and like them a lot. They're predictable sliding thru a corner, hook up good, and wear well. I tried some holeshots last year and was disappointed with how they wore and they didn't seem to slide as well for me. Who know's, maybe it was me. :D
