Hey i need some answers, iv seen in several places that lrd and a few other companies can take a linkage style shock for a 250r and put a new shaft in your shock bodie that is about 3/4 inches longer than the old one which is spose to give you "around" 12 inches of wheel travel. Has any body else heard about this? Can i do it to my linkage style axis shock? and anybody know how much it cost? Thanks

If you have an Axis shock, you should already have about 11" of travel or so, and if you're using all of it or bottoming, you should have it revalved, resprung, serviced, or all 3 of those...

If you have a 1986 shock, there are a few things that can be changed around to get more travel out of the stock shock. I think the bodies and shafts are longer in the 86's. I had a stock '88 shock redone by LRD quite a few years ago and was very happy with it. They didn't add any travel but made the shock much better.

hey i do have an axis shock but i measured from grab bar to axel and theres only 9 inches of up and down travel, i also noticed my rear end doesnt drop as far as a dc2 rear does, and iv heard from several places you can do that by having someone put a long shaft in it for more down travel.

Can you bottom your shock out by jumping on the grab bar??

yea,but just barley, i have to jump as hard as i can, i cant feel it hit,but my dad will watch it and he says it will touch the rubber bumper stopper. And i just remeasured, i have 8.5 inches of rear wheel travel. I want more. Im not real woried about tuning the shock right now, just getting some more travel then ill service and everything later.

I think to get more than 9 inches or so you need to go to a no-link swingarm and long travel shock. They ride rougher but give more travel.

I have a stock '88 shock that was rebuilt by PEP to Limited Mass. More travel and excellent performance. They also hard anodize the shock body. If you don't have a ZPS style front end, I highly recommend this shock mod for the rear.
