I was going to go get me a new 03' black chevy sb reg cab z71. Then i was talking to my neighbor and he said he'd sell me his 88 toyota for around 4500. The truck has 98k on the clock but it has a new motor, new clutch, whole new bed, new paint and new tires.
I figure i could buy it and drive it a year so i'd could have a bigger down payment for a truck in the future. What would be a good price to pay for this truck. It has a 4cylinder, but he says its the best 4 toyota makes. I think if he'll go down to aorund 3500 i may buy it.

good trucks, but they are knows for blowing head gaskets(22R Motor) other than the head gaskets goin the trucks are solid and very reliable.. just a little food for thought. If you dont believe me go on ebay and search for toyota pickup and look at the cheaper ones. almost every one has a blown head gasket. my buddies went twice on him. but if you said there is a new motor you shouldnt have to worry.. they go at around 70,000

great trucks, i've owned four of them ,85, 884runner, 89, and 91, the 89 was a v6 and the head gasket went but only after the truck had 250,000km, i've never had a problem with any of the three 4cyl 22r's i've owned but they are known for head gaskets, and frames going bad in the rear. well around here anyway. friggin salt.

they run forever... several of my friends drive 'em daily, they are all 10+ years old, with 150+k miles, and seem to hold up extremely well (exept for the salt induced NY cancer).

motors are a long way from exciting though ;)

your always better off with something that's cash-and-carry than something that's on 60 month lay-a-way :D

On Tundras the motor is all about power :D
I've toasted a ton of ppl and my truck is still stock, and I've beaten quite a few those little street racin cars

i have a 1995 toyota t-100 it has a 3.4 or 4.3 not sure anymore i forget v6 in it i think and its got 137,000 miles on it now... it hasn't had one problem yet... only thing is i have to replace the oxygen sensor in it...

its not a very powerful truck at all... very slow but it gets me from point A to point B pretty good...

the best part is everyones driving their chevys and stuff getin 7 to 15 mpg average... i'm gettin 25+:macho

i think the tundra would be awesome with the big v8 in it... my lil v6 will light them up if i want it to but it takes some beating on the motor...

I have owned 2, I am on my 2nd one now. I had an '86 22RE turbo that I put 185,000 on and the only thing I had to fix on the motor was the turbo. Everything else was just wear and tear maintanence items. Now I drive an '89 that I got as a birthday gift from my father-in-law. It had 62,000 original miles on it when I got it, and was owned by a doctor whos son works as a salesman at the car dealer I work at. This one I'll drive into the ground, My friend has a duplicate copy of my truck with very close to 300,000 on it he is on his second motor.(first one burnt a valve). Believe it or not it was cheaper to put a (used) motor in than it was to tear down the original and rebuild it.

If you can get him down to $3500 to $3800 on a 4X4 Id say buy it. You can get them here all day long for that. And nothing holds its value here in the Northwest like a truck;)

I have a 92 with 135,000 on it and it runs great. I also have a
77 chev (both 4bys) which I actually prefer but the toyota gets
way better gas mileage that the chev.
Mine has the fuel injected 4 popper and is kind of a slug but
I guess you can't have the best of both worlds.

my dad has a 2001 tundra 4x4 iwth the 4.7l v-8 and that thing has some power, but the tourqe is awsome. with the huge winter tires on it, the treads must be almost an inch deep, i was able to spinn the tires for a good 25 feet and that is from flooring it while going 15 mph

I had my Toyaota since it was new and I put 275k on it with nothing but a new tranny that went out at about 180k. Loved it and would buy one again if I did not have an explorer given to me.
Sold it about 5 years ago for 2700 with all those miles on it. Wish I never sold it. :(

I've owned two and used to work at a toyota dealership. Hands down the longest lasting truck made. I've seen many with 250000 plus miles still running strong.
