Whats a good chain size to go with for a 14t front sprocket on a 400ex?

I bought the sprocket and now my chain is really loose and wont get tight with adjustments. Since I dont think I can take links out of the stock chain (and because im in need of a new chain anyway) I wanted to get a new chain. I want to get a D.I.D. X-ring. So what size?
Also, since I got the new front sprocket and im getting a new chain. Should I get a new back sprocket also? Thanks:D

im not sure about the 400ex, but on my 250r, if the chain is a bit too long, and you take out one link, there isnt enough room to get it back on the sprocket- the chain is too short. i always recommend changing the chain and sprockets at the same time. i go through 2 front sprockets, then i replace it all. my guess is that your chain is stretched too far, and it needs to be replaced anyway. white brothers sells atv chain and sprocket kits, they could save you a few bucks by buying them as a package deal.

x-ring chain are expensive, if you dont need it, dont buy it. i bought one when all i really needed was a 25 dollar non-o-ring chain, that would still last me over a year, and then i could replace it 3 times versus what i paid for my x-ring

I need the new chain anyway. I already bought the sprocket, I just need to know what size chain. For example 520xblank.
I need to know the #in the blank so I can order it from Rockymountainatv.com

Even if its just the stock length that you tell me, cause I probably stretched my stock chain.

Thanks MEL, ill order the size 98 also. Is it hard taking links out without a chain breaker? or should I just order 96?

its not hard, just grind the pioning off then tap the pin throught with a punch. ps i think i wound up taking 4 pins out which would make it 94 not 96.
