i think it would be hot. id like to put a bigger motor in my 250ex but the shaft drive makes it too hard tko change to chain

why would anyone buy a 250ex? they are for 12-14 year olds i think. Go buy a 400ex or a raptor.

An XR650 motor in a 300EX frame? :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

You are just asking for trouble. I don't think that little frame and suspension can handle the power of the 650 motor. If the motor is in good condition, you're probably better off selling it on ebay, along with your 300EX, and get yourself a bigger bike.

Customizing your frame to handle a different motor is no small task. If you have a professional do it, you're going to be spending alot of money. For that kind of money, you can contact a custom frame shop (Arens, Lonestar) and possibly build a custom frame around that motor, and have a better bike overall.

dirtwheels did that a few years ago, but lonestar or someone made a special 300ex frame for it, if you can get the engine cheap. Sell the 300ex and make some money to buy maybe a used 250r frame and some other junk to make it happen

if u had a 400ex then id sa go for it but the 300ex chassis is just stupid to put a motor like that in

It can be done. Can't remember which month, but just a few issues ago in Dirtwheels in the "letters" section a guy wrote in that he had done the conversion. He said it would easily walk away from a raptor. Do it!!:D

id buy the 650 motor and just keep it until u find a 400ex chassis or something to put it in. i think team temecula put a xr650 motor in their 400ex

do it, it will actually be easier to use a 300ex frame than it would a 250r frame because r's have a narrower gap between the top and bottom frame rails. make sure you gusset the frame, and use 400ex geometry on the front end, and a linkage on the back would be even better. there is the solution to the part about the frame and suspension "not handleing it". oh, yeah, DW used a leager's 250r frame for there xr600 swap and i think the 650 is smaller than it physicly b/c it is liquid cooled so there are no cooling fins to get in the way.

what i would do i stip your 300ex down to nothing but the frame, take it and the motor to any competent aftermarket accesory shop and tell them to fab motor mounts, gusset and pc the frame. no more than 700 bucks or so seems more than a reasonable task

I don't see why everyone instantly slams someone who wants to try something crazy like puting a 650 in a 300 frame... I think it's cool. And to all of you that say it's not possible... bunk. Anything is possible with the right kind of work. Will it blow away the race bikes at the track? Probably not. Will it scream and be a blast to ride? Hell yeah!! If it's done right anyways. It reminds me of one time I went to see 'dirtbikes on ice'... there was a guy there with a quad (banshee I think?) that had transplanted a Kawi ZX1000R motor into it that was making like 150+HP. I think he finished 6-8th in the pack or so... didn't win any races... too heavy to make the turns and too much power to put to the ground (but those spiked tires sure threw a lot of snow!!). That said, the crowd was screamin!! It was definitely the most entertaining part of the night. So anyways, there's my 2 cents... and to the guy who wants to put that 650 in a 300EX frame... the only thing I ask is "why only a 650?" ;)

Thats the same as shoving 10 pds of shet in a 5 pound bag.

The frame and suspension wont handle the motor. Dont do it.

well i have that dirt wheels, it was with these 2 ppl that put a 4 cylinder honda into the 300ex frame. but they made alot of mods to the frame to accomdate it. Anything can be done if you really want to spend time and money. I say if you got time and money to back it up, go for it.
