if i tighten the spring on the rear shock by turning the nut counter clock wise will that lower my quad or will it rase it? i did a seach on shock adjustment and read a post saying tighting the spring will lower the quad. is this right????

ya tightening it wil lower it because it is compressed more

releasing alot of preload on the spring will lower the quad, not raise it:huh

geez - even I know this one, loosening it - aka turning it toward the top will LOWER you bike because it will decreas the initial load on the shock so the weight of the bike and the rider will add more initial load causing the spring to compress and the backend to lower....

so, is it better to have it stiff for jumping or soft for jumping?:macho

For big jumps it's better to have it stiff so it will be harder to bottom out, but you pay for it everywhere else because the ride will be harsh - if you want both a plush ride and to not bottom out you will have to get a aftermarket shock. With the stocker you will just have to find the best compromise...

I took dang near all the preload off my stock rear today to lower it with my SSD Elka fronts. Man that was a TERRIBLE idea!! I was bottoming out on everything. I can't wait till I get my rear rebuilt.:devious:
