Taller Gearing or Shorter Gearing?

yeah i was wondering if it would be better to have taller gearing for speed or shorter gearing for acceleration for MX racing?

I've never personally raced a 400EX motocross, but I've talked to a few who have. I've heard down one tooth in the front and up one in the rear is the best setup.

that would pretty much be the same gearing as stock though wouldnt it?

Going down 1 tooth in the front is the same as adding 2-3 teeth in the rear. Dropping one in the front and adding one in the rear will increase your acceleration but your top speed will definitely suffer.
