View Full Version : 400EX Electric clutch?????

After installing my WB block off, I decided to remove the cable and all, I pulled back the rubber cover on the handle bars and noticed 2 wires that ran into a black box mount in the pearch. I pulled the clutch in and looked at it and noticed that everytime you pull the clutch in, the lever pushes down a small knob and makes a click sound. I am thinking this sends an electric signal to the motor or something like that. Maybe Honda tried to apply their Push Button Electric shifting system into the 400EX? I am stumped. Anyone noticed this??? The screw that holds it in seems to vibrate loose so I tightened mine up its a phillips screw. Any thoughts??

It's the switch that only allows it to be started with the clutch pulled in,if you take it off and conect the wires together it will be able to be started in gear without the clutch

My 400 starts with the clutch in or out, doesn't matter at all. I do however have to have it in neutral.

in neutral it will start with clutch in or out, if its in gear and you pull in the clutch itll start also. I just went thru this when I removed my PB.

Airtime is right on the money. It is a nuetral saftey switch (of sorts).
