Hey guys,

I am planning a 416 w/ Hotcam stage 2. Since my 400ex is a 1999 model, I figured new oem springs weren't a bad idea.

Servicehonda.com never works right for me. Anyone figure out what new OEM springs cost? Do I need inner and outer or what??

Do I need any special tools to install them? Whats a keeper?

The keeper is the split 'ring'. You need one for each valve. You will need valve spring compressor for install. Best bet is remove the head and take it with your valves to a shop if you dont have all the tools. It wont take them long.

You might double check these #'s

Per Service Honda

Inner Spring: Part # 14761-KGO-003 Price 3.09

Outer Spring: Part # 14751-KCY-670 Price 5.08

Retainer Part # 14771-107-020 Price 3.84

I was looking to do the same thing.

After you get the price from service honda call planet honda racing
1-800-248-2664 they will beat their price. I bought a cylinder from them for $220 service honda wanted $225 I know it's only 5 bucks but every little bit helps.

i have a 1999 too, do you think that spring really worn out and became more soft after the year or it's just to be safe that you will change them?? is there any benefits to put more heavy spring with stock or xrcam??

I would not recomend heavier springs on a stock or xr cam. Cam is designed to be ran with stock springs. All the research i did with different builders they did not recomend heavier springs with the HRC cam i am putting in. Just my .02 cents
