Here's the deal: My buddy has a golf cart without an engine. We were thinking of dropping in a motor and raising it. His dad's a mechanic so he could help us. I can get free wheels and tires from
my uncle. They have a mini junkyard so parts wouldn't be hard to come by. We have losts of motors available, such as: 750 motorcycle engine, volkswagon engine, and a variety of snowmobile engines. I know you can buy lift kits but were on a very tight budget. We were thinking of jacking it up by ourselves.

If you have any info or advice it would be greatly appreiciated.

Thanx

P.S. We hope it will look like this:

I would say go with the Sled motor, Automatic(kinda) engine would be much easier I think rather than any kind of clutch and gear shifter you would have to hook up

I actually was going to do a project like that. Only i was going to lower it to the ground and put some smaller chrome rims on it (12" rims would look big on like a 16 inch tire) and put an old snomobile engine in it i had laying around. Make sure if you do go snomovile route, dont get an old air cooled one, because if you do it will overheat. and also for a motorcycle engine youd better reinforce the frame, you will twist it. I always though it would be cool though, to cut a small whole in the floor, and run a long pole through the floor and weld it to the shifter, cause i would be like a drag car style transmission then, you would just keep pulling back on your nob (even though if you took it out of second id say you have a death wish. good luck

that would be awsome i think that you should go with a older sled engine so you are just having the auto tranny and your not really comlacting things to much :) a lift would be awosme so would some awsome mud tires :D

my advice is, be careful. i was at work cooincidently talking about golf carts about a week ago and my manager knew of one person who was killed when the golf cart he was taking out a truck fell on him, and another who had broken a leg in one. those things are simple machines but they're HEAVY so just be cautious and don't do anything unsafe with it. think over how you lift it and make parts.

my advice for a a simple front end lift, is to convert it to a beam/4-link suspensions with coilovers off a quad or something. use a straight beam across the front, with a shortened trailer axle or something...then build spindles or use 250R spindles, ride on lawnmower spindles... etc. and look at a straight axle dodge ram front end to see how you should set up the link system...remember the links keep the beam front "wrapping" (twisting forward/backward) its alot more simple then it sounds. good luck feel free to PM for drawings, or info

i would think you would have a lot of "body roll" or "rock" if you did it that way

I've been wanting to build a golf cart for my wife and kids to ride around on at the hare scrambles. This is the suspension kit i have been looking at. Its $1300 so its probably more than your wanting to spend.

March 1999, KZ900 motor bored to 1400cc, can do a wheelie at 80mph on stock spindles. :eek2:

bingo...think you can show him the linkage too??? mounting 180 degrees from each other

its actually a pretty stable ride more so then a-arms if you space your linkage arms/shock angle of dangle right. you can even run a torsion through the frame and make your own sway bar...if you wanna get tricky...but that is the CHEAPEST way to lift a golf cart, if you have little fabrication experience

Well boys, i think we found are engine. It's 18hp (faster than my quad :eek2: ), but thats pretty much all I know about it. I fill you guys in later.

Surfer, could you do that for both ends? Would it bolt on or would you have to weld?
