I went to take my zilla down this dirt road right by our house and right before I shifted into 5th i heard a couple like clanking or grinding noises and the engine just stopped, it all happened in about 2 seconds. So hopefully it didn't do a lot of damage hopefully just needs a honing, pistons and rings. Do you have any suggestions on where do get this done at? It would be all apart already. Does anybody think it did any other damage?
Man, i was so pi$$ed!

You are probably going to need more than a hone job. It's more than likely going to need bored out. But it shouldn't have done much damage if it didn't run long.

all two strokes will do this eventually, this motor has been never been played with since it was brand new in 87 except a head mod

Hopefully it will be an easy fix for you and only need bored to the next size.. That is not too bad if it hasn't needed any thing since 87.. :p

well found out the rod got stuck and thats all i know right now, but there is this experienced independent guy that is going to take the whole motor apart and put wiesco piston in and bore to next size and change any other parts that look wore and do a high performance port job all for $300-$550, he worked on my brother's 250x before and did a great job and always has atvs, bikes, odysseys, etc. in his shop so i know he will do a good job might need to use race fuel after its all said and done

yep see the same crap happend to me and i kept running my motor on one piston on my shee and i didnt no and i blew my rod :( now i need a brand new rod. So good luck with it. Its not that hard to take your motor apart I did mine pretty damn fast for what i didnt no what the hell i was doing and it took me about 25 min to take the motor out of the chassis.
good lucky man

Well if the rod got stuck chances are the rod bearings are fried. You are going to need a new rod.

sucks to hear that, but i hope that it won't cost you an arm and a leg :D but once you get it fixed it;ll be a fire breather:)

i hate it when stuff blows up.. it sucks majorly expecially if it shatters and goes all into the crankcase and it gets all messy. thats why i think its a good idea to rebuild something even before it needs it.

there was a carbon build up, but it seemed to run great and i was running 36:1 with blendzall and premium gas and it only smoked where you could barely see it then in 2 seconds it got f#&Ked up

My 87' Zilla had the rod go out about a year ago. $900 to redo the engine. Good luck with it. It seems like you've lucked out so far though, I have to split the cases on mine every year for something. Last time I needed a new 2nd gear.

its a lot of money to rebuild a motor but if you just replace a rod if thats all it needs its 75 dollars to do by a mechanic

but if you strat replacing crank and you do hone and pistons
it may comeout to like 900 dollars.. this is the reason im selling my banshee i dont have the money to fix it so im parting the shee out

u could maybe get it sleeved with the new piston and ring(s)...i got my bike sleeved, so i dont wear out the cylinder as fast...

ouch, splitting cases is a job and a half, i havent did mine yet but my friend did his and i saw all teh gears and bolts, i wa slike  ill pay someone to do mine if i ever need it, but hey, since your cases are split you wanna get them polished?
