View Full Version : Part 2 of my jetting saga...

Well I took the quad out today and pissed with the jetting some more. Air screw 3 turns out, stock pilot, needle on 3rd notch and a 165 main. The quad starts right up and idles great and you can go up through all the gears and it's fine. The problem I'm having now is if I'm blasting in 3rd gear+ full throttle and I let off the gas totally the motor just dies. It doesn't hesitate and then crap out, it just dies as if someone hit the kill switch. You can stop and start it right back up again and continue riding. I've adjusted the air screw in 1/2 turn increments with no change to my problem. I made sure the idle wasn't too low as well. This is giving me fits. I was so disgusted with it today that at about 1:00 I just pushed it into the garage and I'll touch later in the week.

hmm, that sounds really odd...
My first thing to check would be the idle, try raising it beyond what you think it should be and see what happens...... if not the idle then I would try a bigger pilot jet
I know its not the most accurate thing, but what does your plug look like?

Guy you sure you didn't get any dirt in the carb when you had it apart? I would pull it apart and clean it real good then try it.

Go down to a 160 I think you're hittin' it with a fire hose. 2-2 1/2 turns out from seat on the fuel screw. Pilot 1 size up from stock. Foam or K&N filter? Dyno/K&N or Keihin jets and needle? Airbox lid off or holes in it? Altitude? Need more information.

Whatever was done can be un-done, it'll be fine. :D

Guy, if all you have is an HMF slip-on (and even an air filter), you should try a 155 main. Even with the 165, it will run pretty good when you are hammering on it, but like White Knuckles said, it will kill when you let off. Sounds to me like it is getting too much gas.
