Depends on what kind of filter you have. For my K&N I use the recharger kit it comes with cleaner and oil and it's only like $10. For a foam filter I used PJ1 foam filter cleaner. But when I ran out of that I just used dishwashing detergent. It works good just takes awhile longer. And don't use compressed air or a blow dryer to dry it, let it dry on it's own. The re-oil.

What kind of oil do you put on your air filter after it is dry? Does it really hurt not to put it on?

For a foam filter I use PJ1 filter oil. And the filter is useless without the oil.

FIrst i clean it with uni cleaner then I soak the filter in very warm dish soap water vor about 15, shake the filter every ouce in a while.
Then i completey rise the filter in clean water
let air dry, compelty
Then re oil with 10w-40
