The 505 is ready!!

Methanol carb is on and shes ready to fly. Well almost. I was planning to do a little racing this weekend but while installing my carb this morning I broke the powerjet fitting that goes into the float bowl. Damnit. Should have it fixed in a few days.

Its been together and running great for the last few months I just decided to lower it and put it on Methanol recently. And of course I had to break something. Bad part is its a 2 cent piece thats broke, and will probably cost $100 to fix.

well about that trip comin down here... looks like it wont be happening unless you go to monticello which is like 5 min away because the track we usually go to has stopped runnin 4-wheelers and is runnin cars only but there was another track built in monticello so we will be racing there for now on

I would like to make a trip over there but the way work is slowing, I may not be able to afford to put Methanol in it muvh less go anywhere!! But hopefully it will pick up soon, usually does about this time!! For now I just have struts on it, but plan to go to a drag +6 tubular swingarm, and drag a-arms with Marvin Shaws soon!

To run Meth you need a higher compression than stock, and a carb setup for it. you can get a Lectron carb setup for it for about $300 or a FCR for about $500. Ive got a Lectron 40mm carb with a powerjet setup for Meth on mine, and 12.5:1 compression! To make it run really good you really need a port job and a few other things but dont have to have it for it to run on Meth!

Yes Methanol is alcohol. Methanol is basically alcohol in its purest form, which is whats needed to run in an engine!! You are right about what you need to run alky, but remember alky can be a pain sometimes. The good part is it gives you a real nice power increase and it keeps your bike running real cool. The bad part is, first off, it can be hard to jet, alky can be a pain to jet and can be off from one elevation to another or one temp outside to another before gas would need to be adjusted. Also alcohol attracts water, you have to be careful storing it, keep it in a tightly closed container and preferably off the ground. it will also require you to change your oil more often because you will start to get a little water in your oil from the alky. Alky is corrosive therefore you dont really want to leave it in the carb over 12 hours, it needs to be purged. What I will do in this case is have a IV bottle with race gas in it and disconnect the line from my tank(with the alky) to the carb and hook a line from the IV bottle to the carb and run the races gas through it. It will run like crap(very rich) but it will run and get all the alky out of the carb. And also its a good idea to put a screw or tape over your line coming off the gas tank cap so moisture cant go through there into the alky! Also alky burns 25% faster than gas! So you can see it can be a pain, but for me the power and cooler running is a must, not to mention its only$1.90 a gallon compared to the $6.75 race gas I was having to run!

hey Chad nice bike man, i love it. i wish you would come race down here so i could watch you and c how the bike does in person. The races officially started the new season last night (april 12). they race every saturday and occasionally have a mega bucks race which is like run by the atvdra and sponsered by honda and polaris i think. they have acouple of these during summer and into august and september. first place is like $3000-$5000, it differs depending on classes. and payout is all the way down to 16 place. check it out at www.springhilltrack.com
i would really like to see a 400ex show up al these banshees. plus theres a mean MEAN alky 250r down there that a local owns, i have never seen anything beat it. it just smokes alky banshees, its crazy.

My friend has a huge tank of methanol and I was riding there and I ran out of gas so I had to put methanol in it. My quads stock, will

Actually they have flat track races here once or twice a year. its actually a car oval track but they race quads on it sometimes. The guy that has won the last 2 years in a row is a 350R with a +4 swingarm!! I havent ever raced there.

About time someone made a drag four stroke with out it being a huge motorcycle motor. I thoguth abotu doing that for so long with my old POS raptor motor. YOu night want to think about making a lightweight frame, or buying one from Lonestar. Your goign to need to be as light as possible. Have you taken the front breaks off yet? I know a lot of people do that too.

Brokeitin3 measured his stock 250EX shocks and he said they were 12.5 inches in the front and the rear was 13 inches(bolt hole to bolt hole) Well the lowering struts I have on my bike are pretty close to 13 inches in the front and 13 inches in the back! So its going to be close, the only thing is that the 250EX shocks are 1/2 inch shorter, than the front stuts, and the struts I have on now are as low as I want to go, my a-arms are in a strait horizontal line. But I might could make them work. Anybody know the length of 300EX shocks??

Chad, 300ex shocks might be a tad bit tall. My Blaster shocks (front) are mesured at 14 1/2in, the rear is 16 1/2in. 300ex shocks are a tad longer (I think). Then again, when the shocks are compressed (which can be ajusted), you will probably be down to the same length.

I think my best bet is going to be 250EX shocks. Only thing Im worried about is them being 1/2 inch shorter than my struts are now, and Im pretty sure that is the measurement off the bike without weight on them! I wonder if the 250EX shocks can be adjusted?

300 shocks will bolt right onto a 400 because a 400 front end goes on a 300 and u can use the stock 300 shocks or 400 shocks and they will fit but the 300 shocks are too short and the 400's are to tall....

Chef that R is gonna be sweet!! Did you custom order those Work shocks? Your bike looks to be sitting about the same hieght as mine. What size a-arms do you have?? Looks like your Houser stickers on your a-arms are starting to do the same thing mine are!! I really just want to get a cheap ole set of used 300EX shocks. Suspension quality isnt important to me I just want to have some,,those struts are rough as a mofo!! I was talking to Brokeitin3 about getting his 250EX shocks he said he would make a trade or awesome deal with me on them becasue he has no use for them, but the front on a 250EX are a little short I think. Im needing shocks around 13-13.5inches in the front. If anybody has some stock 300EX shocks laying around let me know. Man that Methanol made a HUGE difference. I never expected a difference that big, but we are thinking that I may still have been running way to lean on gas,,this thing is a pig on fuel!! I got out in my field and put the hammer down and I dug 2 ruts all the way up my field,,,in the grass!!! It pulls so hard it feels like my arms are gonna rip out of the sockets!! It feels to me like Meth added about 30-40% more power at least, and I was pretty much spanking all the 4 strokes on gas!! Cant wait to run it this weekend, if it dont rain,,,Ill even get some pics!! But I have to get some suspension ASAP, these struts are going to give me a hernia!!

Chad, those are +2 Housers, but with the bike that low its like 53 inches or somethin to the outside of the tires. THe reason those stickers are comin off is because the first night out for those a-arms I hit another guy head on in practice, and either his front tire or front bumper ripped those up.

300ex, Its a PSI cylinder, RPM Swingarm, LSR Axle, TCS Shocks, Burgard A-Arms, and a RAD bearing carrier. Rath Sway Bar, and more shtuff. :blah

Chef, My Houser stickers are starting to look like that and I havent had anything touch mine! I believe Brokeitin3 is going to hook me up on his set of stock 250EX shocks! Im going to have me a +6 tubular swingarm made for my bike. Im buying the carrier housing from JJ and A Racing for $39 then my friend at the machine shop is going to build the rest of it out of Chromoly for like $100! Gonna cost me $139 for a +6 swingarm!! Plus the powdercoating which I also get very cheap!!!

Ive got a Sandragon +5 swingarm on mine right now and that mofo weighs a ton!! Thats why I want to get rid of it for a tubular lightweight +6!

They make a pretty trick aero tube design. It has 4 tubes actually, and i think one that goes horizontalle between them for the shock mount, and some that go vertical on the sides of it.

Its wierd, I know they make some awesome chassis's, especially for Banshees, but their 400EX swingarms could be used for a damned boat anchor!!! Its not that thier really any heavier than any other aftermarket swingarms, its just that I guess I expected something light from a drag chassis builder!!
