I just bought a new chain and sprocket kit. It is 15/36 gearing with a 96 link chain. The chain seems too long upon installation and I'm guessing I need to remove at least 2 links so I can properly adjust it. Is this correct, and do I need a chain breaker or can I do it with something else?

Yes you need a chain breaker. If you don't have one, you can get one at any hardware store. How much too long is it. I would only take out one link at a time. You don't want to get it too short. ;)

From looking at it I would guess it is 2 links too long. Thanks for the info.

I was also thinking of using a press and a punch, as long as I leave enough room in back for the link to come out.
