LOL! LOL!:D You guys are sooooo funny!!! :D

Hondagirl....I'm about an hour from Crown King - couple hours from Sedona. I haven't done the Crown King ride but I hear it's fun.....if you go to www.ridingarizona.com - and get on their forum and do a search for Crown King....you should be able to see pics of it and read posts about it! I know they do trips there a lot......I dont really trail ride much - I stick to the track as much as I can. My quad is way too low and wide to take offroad anymore......I'd wipe out my a-rms in a second! :)

You will love the weather!!! :D

Oh..my tummy tat didn't hurt too much....I didn't think either of my tats was extremely painful.....it was just hard to keep from giggling when he first started (I'm very ticklish!) ;)

The left side hurt 10x worse than the right, for some reason, the guy that did it told me everone that gets one on their lower back seems to complain about that. I searced for months for a tribal heart that I liked, but couldn't find one. Finally I managed to draw this one up, and I can't draw worth nothin.

PDunes300ex

What else in the world will last until the grave? A tattoo (even the silly ones) will mark a time and place forever. There is a certain amount of comitment that must be applauded for those that choose to make a statement that cannot be erased. Marriage among other things are revered by popular culture for it's sign of everlasting commitment...yet divorce is somehow more accepted than some ink under the skin.

Does that make any sense? :huh

Just be careful that you don't get a ton of little details...what happens over time is the edges of the lines will tend to blur as your body tries to dissolve the pigment....so if you have lots of little details, they will start to blend together after several years. That's why I like tribals.....they are interesting but still a very basic design.

Tribals actually hurt more, I think, than other tats, because they are so dark - the artist will usually go over the design two times....like getting two tats in one sitting....just to help eliminate any missed places.....They are also pretty easy to freshen up - you can go in after 10 years and have it redone - have the edges sharpened up and it's pretty easy.

Everyone's pain threshold is different, so keep that in mind when talking to people about how much something hurt or didn't. If shots don't bother you and you understand the concept of pain management, then you should be fine with a tat. If you can't stand the sight of needles and cry over a papercut, then you might want to rethink it.

Besides, QJ - like I said - once you have kids, NOTHING hurts that bad! A tat is a cakewalk!!! :) They actually stuck the epidural needle right into the center of my back tat when I had my son.......eeewwwwww!:blah :)

RedRider300 - once the tenderness goes away and you have your tat for a while, you will probably start thinking of more places to get one! It's gonna be a little sore for a little while - I would suggest putting a gauze pad on it for a few days (careful that you use a non-stick one...don't want to peel off any ink!)...since your pants will probably rub up against it and that will hurt....that's what I did with mine, and it helped alot. Looks nice!!!! Cool design! :)

I have about a 5" tribal in the small of my back, it is a little tender back there, but when I was getting it, I was thinking about what I wanted to get next. They are addictive. I only have two, but the next one is in the near future. I want a large tribal over my right shoulder/arm/ back area.

Have you ever heard of people having skin reactions to the inks? Just curious.. Well, I guess there would be some detailing to mine but mostly just a few colors and I dont want the tat bigger than about 8 inches wide...

400grl
04-14-2003, 05:19 AM
Hmmmmm.....I don't know if I have ever heard of anyone I know having a reaction to the ink.....you might want to ask the place where you are getting it done what the chances of that happening are....they might have an idea. They could probably do a little test "poke" for you to check.....

Yeah - I don't think you will have any problem with a tat........you could even try a temporary back there to see how you like it - if you aren't totally sure you want one. I have had friends do that....it gets you used to having something back there...they make some cool ones you can buy at the mall or something. Won't be like the one you want, but will still give you an idea of what it would be like to have it! :)

PDunes300ex
04-14-2003, 07:13 AM
There are some people allergic to the inks used in a tattoo...although extremely rare. One note to getting your first design...just remember to breath. Your bodies natural response to pain is taking a deep breath then holding it until the pain subsides...oddly enough if somebody keeps doing this your brain gets starved for oxygen and the preliminary signs of fainting will occur (light headedness, stary eyes, sick feeling.) So just make sure to breath...in through the nose and out through the mouth. Besides...any reputable artist will make sure you are comfortable and will not hesitate to take a break if you are feeling a little light headed.
Pain scale: Any fleshy area that sees the sun will be the least painful...Less meat = more pain....Anything with bone right under the surface of the skin is usually the most painful (spine, shin, sternum, inside arm, rib cage....etc

QuadJunkies
04-14-2003, 07:23 AM
ok, maybe this sounds stupid, but Im going to ask anyhow,....... So if it hurts so bad and to make the person more comfortable, why dont they have a way of just numbing the area? then things would go alot smoother...

04-14-2003, 07:55 AM
Nothing better than the feeling of 5-7 needles bouncing off your bones for several hours..woo hooo

400grl
04-14-2003, 08:25 AM
I know there is a reason why they don't numb the area, but I can't remember right now.........

RedRider300
04-14-2003, 08:42 AM
I remember the night before i got mine done, there was a special on the Discovery channel, showing how they did it, and the history and all, I never knew they used that many needles at once, I was second guessing it after that, but went through with it anyway. I really don't take pain that well, but I managed to make it through this one

PDunes300ex
04-14-2003, 08:49 AM
Although physically tolerant of pain...the body definately has it's limit to the duration of the agitation. If one session goes on too long the body will start to bleed more and more (swelling) and it's response to this is to tighten up and constrict the bloodflow to that area. If this happens the needle will no longer be able to deliver the ink deep enough to stay put. If the area were numbed the pain receptors do not tell the body enough is enough and eventually the area would become bloody to the point tht no ink would take because fluid would be taking the place of where the ink should go....kinda confusing...and im not the best at explanations...but that is the reason.

Plus numbing the area would just be an extra unnecessary step especially since the majority of people getting a tattoo can make it through the pain eventually.

PDunes300ex
04-14-2003, 08:52 AM
Don't drink before a tattoo....don't take any medication that thins the blood before a tattoo either....all that does is significantly lessen the time you have in the chair. Thinned blood makes it to the surface a whole lot faster than normal. Then all you'll be left with is light colors and terrible scabbing.

Above and beyond the physiological aspects stated above, could you imagine the increase in price to have a registered/licensed anesthetist on-site to administer a local anesthetic? Holy Chit, that would add about another 150-200 bucks to the price of the tat alone! I've got em on my lower back (10 in tribal), ankle (1 1/2 in wide Celtic band completely encircling my ankle), and right shoulder (2 of em). Yes the ankle and back hurt a bit, but nothing intolerable. Its more of an annoying stingy pain than anything else. Dont imagine the pain of the last time you slit your hand open with a box cutter or kitchen knife. Not even in the same ballpark. Nut up and just do it. Besides, FYI, tat artists will tell you that women are able to take the pain of a lower back tat better than men.
