in order to run a bigger carb on on 400 what other modifications must be done or can you just slap on a 39milly and ride?

Sure you can slap any carb on and ride, but you will lose power. Aftermarket carbs are designed to take more air into the engine and release more fuel faster. If your engine can't take in all of the air because it is restrited you will lose power and there is no point. For you to run a bigger carb you should have your engine ported and polshished so it to can take in more air and also have a higher compression piston along wit some overbore. There are a few carbs on the market that will help a stock bike with a hi-flo exhaust and filter. Try the regular edelbrock qwiksilver it will boost hp all around and more than a full exhaust system. I wouldn't use the fcr 39 othe edelbrock 440 version until you have some engine work done.
