i might try polishing my cylinder and head on my 250x while its apart, but i don't know what to use to get between the fins. any ideas? i realize this will be alot of work. i don't expect to get it to a mirror finish, i don't want to put that much time into it, just a nice glow. thanks.

its kinda pointless....once the motor gets hot it will burn the finsh off...:ermm:

how do you figure? its just going to be metal, nothing on top of it.

you mean you just wanna take it down to bare metal? that would work i guess...

yes, thats what i had in mind. if you say polishing with any compounds will just cause them to burn off i'll try and polish it as best i can without any compounds.

From what I've heard it's totally not worth it to try to polish a finned motor. Waaaaaaaay too much work, and once you get started you can't stop till you finish the whole thing or it looks like crap. I've seen some that are painted in-between the fins that look kind of cool.

I like the ones that are painted and then ground shiney on the outer edges of the fins

yeah i like the painted cylinders w/ polished edges too, but i don't have any money to get the right kind of paint that will dissipate heat. still trying to decide what to do :ermm:

Engine paint is only like $4 or $5 for a can?
And the painted cylinder and polished fins do look good,,,I plan on doing mine soon!

I dont think i would paint or polish a air cool cyclinder.Just for cooling reasons.I would do a head cover though:D

i didn't realize the right paint was that cheap. maybe i'll look into that and just polish the tips. it'll definately be easier. so far just cleaning the whole cylinder completely has taken forever :ermm:

Man I was going to try to tackle polishing my cylinder but gave up! I just sprayed mine with some Eagle One Wheel cleaner with Etching. Spray on wipe off,, It cleans it right up!! Just dont spray it on any polished aluminum!
