kxrider
04-08-2003, 03:24 PM
i plan on gettin a new yz250, this summer when my fmx team realy takes off, when we start traveling out of state, doin demos, and like i said my dad paid for every cent of the 250ex, its just not right to ask to sell it, im not serious into racing i just want to try it, i've only droped 2.99 into lowering it so far, and all that was was for new air spendles no big loss

To tell you the truth, on a short track its not really all about power as much as it is rider, body english, and get that HOLESHOT:D I personally have never seen a 250ex on a flat, but me and a and 250X were out there when I raced my 300ex,I outcornered some of them too and I didnt place last,so there goes to show you ,its more than a power issue..Good luck, I think as along as your out to have some fun, thats what counts good luck!....;) Can you tell me about the quad? whats it got for mods right now? maybe PM me a few mods your runnin,, Ever done flattrack before? Tina :)

Hey, to each his own. I think it is great that you are doing something other than sitting around smokin' a joint, or the crack pipe. As long as you are having fun, cool.

I have caught crap from naysayers about my past projects (bagged & body-dropped Datsun, Ninja 250 roadrace bike, Ninja 500 powered 3-wheeler.....on and on.) But I guarantee I have gotten more experience fabricating parts, welding, painting, and suspension setup than I would have if I just stood around making fun of other peoples' creations.

Do your flat tracking project. Make it work. Deaf ear to the critics. (unless it is constructive criticism.)

My friend has a 250ex and wants to race with me this summer. Can you get pics of the front and rear lowering kits and how you made or got them. That's the 1st 250ex I've seen lowered but I think you'll do fine on smaller tracks.

Here is a little bit of advice. If you leave the front end at the height that it is right now and you are using your stock shocks, then it is too low. You never want you’re a-arms parallel with the ground. Chances are since this will be a short track that you are racing on, you will be hard on the brakes in the corners. If you keep the a-arms where they are at, when you go into a corner and hit the brakes the a-arms will be inverted. Which is something you never want and that will cause the quad to want to either high side. The quad will also want to “push” in the corners because of the bump-steer that is caused by the a-arms being inverted. I would suggest stiffening up the front shocks all of the way. It will a little bit, but not as much as if you raised the front end up some. These are just some basic helpful hints of flattracking.

Very nice 400.

04-10-2003, 03:46 AM
Raptor. My Warrior looks alittle bit llike the 1st one. I just need nerfs and get fix the rear lowering kit. If anyone has some TT/Falttrack pics, lets see them.

04-10-2003, 03:51 AM
Thanks to whitebread from BT:D LOTS of Raptors. I'll be getting a Raptor at the end of the summer and i'll be racing TT up here in the open class.

I was curious why one front itre was bigger than the other in the one pic?:huh Is that for better turn and stability on the corners? Is it just me. or are the tires in the front a bit wider than some? I would think a wider tire would do better for stabillity...Those are some VERY SWEET Raptors!!!

The wider front tire is for flattrack only. I have heard mixed reviews about the outside tire being wider than the inside. Some say that it makes it handle much better in the corners and others say that it makes the quad want to "push" in the corners. The thing that will help him out (and all other quads pictured in this thread except for the 1st 400ex pictured) more than a wider outside tire, is an anti-sway bar. The anti-sway bar will make much more of a difference than a wider outside tire.

hears one for ya.

04-10-2003, 10:22 AM
:huh That think would suck to ride.

Reason for the right tire being wider is what they said. It keeps the right side planted and it's easier to turn without to much body english.

Im running 21x8x10 Pro Tracks up front and 18" Turf Tamers on the rear. Im trying to find a nice wide pair of front tires if anyone wants to donate?

they use those small tires for racing on really short indoor tracks, revs quick and easy to pitch it side ways in the corners.

Huh.. out track is very small and Ive never seen them run that small here.only the midget cars run them, mostly 18 inch turf tamers run here..I would have never thought a tire that small would do anything of importance on a quad.. It sure looks funny...:p

I believe the smaller tires are used for the smaller CC engines. The smaller engines can’t turn the bigger/heavier TT tires, so they put the smaller kart tires on them for quicker acceleration and better turning ability. The engine in that quad looks like an 80cc or 65cc engine. There are lots of mini’s and even an ATC250R that use those tires around here. I am sure those tires would work really well for your Kasea if you plan on doing a lot more flattrack racing.

Wow! Do you seriously run that machine like that? Well, if it works then go for it. I have never seen a set up like that around here at the TT tracks. Cool man!:D

well im not goin to be racing but i did take a few practice laps with 2 of my friends 400ex and my 250ex, and on the first turn i was in 2nd, and it took 4 laps before he passed me and even then i still stayed right up on it til i went a lil high got into the wall, my quad kart wheeled once, throw me, then rolled sideways twice, so i got bent bars and realy bad shape plastice,
