i am in the market in getting me a new truck .... has been reliable for the most part. i asking 14000.00 with stock rims and tires which have good tread.
97 1500 chevy 305 vortc which i heard was the same thing as the old 350's... anyhow to my question....


with gas prices killing me i believe buying a wrecked truck that has a good title would be good for me .. cause then i could go and get something really good thats new and has low miles for half of what you would pay at a dealership

i can get a 99 chevy 5.2 liter (327) heated leather seats , tow package, bedlinner, 3rd door, power everything .... z71 LT for 11,000 dollars .... and it has a GOOD tittle... and was hit from the rear ... ...

that is why i am considering to sale my truck there is nothing wrong with it i just want to buy this specific truck ...

also there is a 4x4 ford f150 that looks really sharp with weld racing rims and 5.4 liter trition that doesnt have as many luxurys as the chevy but around the same price he said....

then there is this tacoma .. i think its better suited for me i get tired driving my truck around cause i am always putting gas in it!! i figured a toyato v-6 offroad package and fully loaded would be my better bet for fuel and money, but i just cant see my self pulling a trailor all the time just cause my 400ex is to wide.to fit in the back.

that 5.4 ford motor is a pig. i had one..............take my word for it.

if i were you i would be looking for a deisel truck of some sort becuase they tend to get a bit better millage than compared to a 5.7l or 5.0 l truck of some sort :)

thansk 4punks i take that into consideration if i go ford i will probably get my hands on a 4.6 ... my uncle has one and its pretty even with my truck but gets better gas miliage but that might be that his is 2 wheel drive and mine is 4 ..

also i noticed on the internet wrecked trucks hold their value pretty much the same as if they werent wrecked as long as they have a clean title..... but tottaly oppsite for a car...

i dont want to buy new but anyhow does that seem like a pretty good deal for that z71 and lt package ??? i think if i bought it for 11 i could turn and around in sale it for at least 12500 or 13000 and make a couple dollars profit to make improvements to my 4 wheeler ... even put some money in the bank for little jr ..

Hey. Why dont you look for a s10 zr2. I have a 96 and it is still runnung strong having a banshee in the back and a 250ex and raptor on a trailer and it doesnt guzzle gas...Best truck i got ...Just rare to find...

and for the folks who claim these unbelieveable mileage figures with diesel trucks..........they are exactly that. I have driven diesel trucks before for work. None of them ever got any more than 10 MPG. Maybe you will get 18 mpg on the highway with a brand new diesel with a 3:55 rear gear

FYI, the motor for the Z71 is a 5.3L. :devil

I currently have a Z71 with the 5.3 and love it. I'm getting around 15-17mpg (city - highway). Very good power for a 1/2 ton pickup.

As for the diesel question, I have a friend with a 03 GMC 3500 dually 4x4 4 door DuraMax/Allison combo (3.73 rears - the only option for this setup) and he gets 18 or so MPG highway driving. Even when he pulls his 37' 5th wheel, it still gets 13 mpg. The only problem with this is the cost.... the new diesels cost an arm and a leg.... :mad:

when i first started loooking for a new truck i was going to get the new extreme .... thats before i called my insurance company ... ouch let me tell you i would have paid more for insurance in 3 years for what the truck is acturally worth....


and since i got the 4x4 truck and i never had any promblems its sorta hard going to a 2 wheel drive truck........

anyhow i like a s 10 4x4 package but i dont see myself in one i liked one so much i sorta burned my self out of them in the beging....


i not get a diseal truck. mom made that clear to me last night... she sorta dont like buying wrecked car. but since its are cuz she is considering letting me by wrecked only from him ... but i been looking up on it .. it seems to take the price value down more tahn i expected... and i dont see how he is going to get me a clean title now aft er reading about it on kbb and car consumer reports....

yeah i noticed this morning that i was putting 5.2 instead of 5.3



what year is your truck i heard the 2000 have more power than the 99's .... have you had any promblems out of your truck like intake gasket??


but i also heard from alot of people that the vortec 305 has more power than the old 350 but noone has really confirmed that besides rednecks i hang around on sundays:D


oh just to let everyone know.... i was at my cuz house waiting for him to go get reading to go riding and his dad sales wrecked cars and i found a good deal on a 99 5.3 lt z71 with tow package for 14500.00 i was just asking if that was to much for a 99 but he said right off the bat he could get me one for 11,000 that is why i was considering buying wrecked because i could save about 3 grand ....

I have had zero problems. As for the power, there is a difference...but I have found the "late" 99's do have 285 HP 325 lb ft....I know of a few members on GM-TRUCKS.COM that have late 99's with this number.

The only real mod that I have on it right now is the K&N FIPK. Gives the truck the sound of a 4 barrel carb opening up when you step on it. I also noticed a bit more power as well.

Never heard of any head gaskets leaking with the 5.3...

As for your 305 vs 350...the 350 is a stronger motor.

go w/ the taco! u wont b dissapointed. as for the quad not fitting in the bed my 400 fits just fine in my 03 ext-cab. now if u have + a arms and a widen stance it probably wont fit. i have to give mine a nice little shove to clear the wheel wells. but tailgate closes no problem and rides nice back there. let me know if u have any ?'s bout taco's. by the way i have an 03 taco v-6 ext w/ TRD pkg 4x4

I say stick with the Z. Personally I love my 88 Silverado and it has not let me down yet. I think the fuel pump went out on it once a few years back when my dad was driving it, but I think thats it. I have a 350 and get 18 mpg highway, but its only a 2wd and will drink gas really quick if you gouge on it or if your in a city and hit every possible stop light there is. :eek:

All the trucks you mentioned are pretty dependable, its just gonna be a matter of personal opinion on what you like best, but I say go with the Z. :D

dang it the z71 that i was wanting that cost 14500 .00 we was going to get it today after mom test drove it and my uncle but they sold it and .. the guy they sold it to traded a ford bronco 2 in for it .. then they ask me to buy that and i was like umm no .. lol well i guess i waited to long i should have none someone was going to jump on that ... there is another one but i am not for sure if its the lt version or not but it looks pretty goo its solid black like my truck ... i am going to swing by there tomorrow...



its either going to be the toyota or the chevy ... i believe i already talked myself out of the zr2 and the extreme and the ford 150 and 250....


my truck is getting an avearage of 15 miles per gallon thats (city highway country roads stop lights everything )... which i do not believes that to bad .. mom said when she drove it to work she was getting 17 ,18 miles per gallon..... but she drives like a granny i swear i dont think she ever gets past 15 grand on the rpm gauge

This will be going up for sale I think(hard to part with it) but if you are looking for gas mileage, you dont want it 8-13mpg

keep in mind if a dealer had my truck they would be asking 15-16
i want to be reasonable and dont want to jip anybody... it runs good its quite and i think it gets good gas mileage ...

no,............I get around 12mpg. the f-350 has a v-10

I really like our truck it is a '97 GMC 3500 total work truck. No carpet insted really thick plastic, 3 seater with big ole 454 under the hood. She is a beast of a worker truck. Those are 36inch tires with new rims. It isn't that great compared to your guy's but she does well for me.:bandit:

its sharp, better looking than any s 10 or the new updated body style i see nothing wrong with your truck but i pull about 100% of my friends 4 wheelers 100% percent the places i go so thats why i want a big motor and 4x4 sometime we park in a parkinlot and sometimes a wet muddy feild ...
