I have been looking to buy some tires for motocross and just to mess around and practice. I was wondering what ply, size, and of course what kind of tire? I am looking at the Maxxis Razrs, ITP Holeshots, or some Turf Tamers. Its pretty much just really loose dirt...thx :macho

well if you only race motox here's the combo's id go with

1 18"turt tamers and 18" radials in the front

2 18" holeshot mx's all the way around

or if you use the bike for a lil bit of everything then' i'd go with

3 20"razors in the back and factory sized razors in the front...

i run combo #1 and love it... rode a quad with 18 (or 19 i forget ) holeshot mx's in the front and they worked good .... but it is up to you all depends w=onb what kind of riding you do

I run 18-11-8 tamers in the rear, and 19" holeshot mx's in the front. That setup works great for me. I tryed the holeshot mx in the rear but they didn't offer too much side traction,,,,,I didn't really like them too much for the rear.

I found stock gearing to work best with 18 inch rear tires.

a lot of people like the Turf Tamer because you can groove them for specific applications. I have Holeshot MX's all the way around. I like them a lot. I really like the front MX's, i think they are a little better than the Groved radial tire. My next set of rear are going to be some turf tamers, i'm gonna try them out and see what i think. But as for right now, i'm happy with the MX's. they hook good, easy to slide through corners. Although, a little slippery on hard surfaces.

i'd go with holeshot mx fronts and turf tammers 18x11x8 on the rear

Don't get the 18x9.5x8 turf tamers or you'll be poppin the bead all the time,,,,I've seen it happen numerous times even with champion beadlocks,,get the 11 inch wide ones if ya do go with turftamers.

ahhhh, but what if you had dual beadlocks with the 18x9.5-8?;)

I can't remember if my buddy has dual or not?? But he hasn't busted the ITP holeshot MX tires off the bead neither have I,,but he could have just beat the odds.. I've never run turftamers,,but everyone I have spoke with that went from turfs to ITP's like the ITP's better,,,,that's if they weren't defective like mine.:(
Heck I might just put some blackwaters on the back of mine for next race season..:D

I've ran the 18x9.5x8 tamers at 4-5psi on normal .190 Douglas wheels for 3 yrs. racing MX and have never blown the bead on them, I have blown the bead on my 11" wide ones but those were on stock 200X wheels

my friends MX's were defective too! A couple days after he put them on we noticed a huge buldge in the sidewall. and that spot was unusually soft compared to the rest of the tire.
