I have a 01 300EX and have seen several posts recommending a 20" tire size. Is this for the back tire only or both front and back?

Back only.Your front is probably a 22.

If you mostly trail ride and your lookin for some good all around sizes 21 up front and 20 in the back would work perfect,,don't go any smaller than that unless your gonna race MX.
