ok, all you gearing genius' listen up.

I rode Dune Surfer's 426 w/ stage 2 hotcam. It pulled real nice in the upper/top midrange. I'm thinking of doing the very same set-up, except a 416 w/ stage 2.

Now, I like the hit, but, to mke it seemed like it came on a tad to late, like when I had it pegged in 3rd.

If I got up to a 39 rear/15 front with the 416, and hotcam stage 2, with that make the "hit" come on a little sooner? Instead of feeling it pegged in 3rd, maybe feeling the pull, when I accelerate THRU 3rd,....make sence??

Hope so....let me hear what you think

My 416 doesn't seem to have that problem. It pulls pretty smooth right on up to redline. It doesn't like to be lugged around in a low RPM however. That problem is easily solved with a quick fan of the clutch though.

I was thinking about that set up.After the rebuild i tried going back to the 15/38 but i didnt like it know where as much as i do the 14/38.That is what im still running. It has a hard hit from low tru high.In every gear.Theres not much differance in the top end, maybe 1 or 2mph top.And i dont think i have had mine compleatly wound out yet!I run out of room or im going too fast for the terrian.Sure would like to see what a 39mmFCR would do for it now.It dont need it at all but it would be fun to pull up beside somebody and just walk away from em' like they were sitting still.

RaptorAZ,

so your saying, in tight technicle stuff, like small dunes, it's not cool? I need to be wide open all the time for it to be happy?

I am running a 15 / 39 right now. I like it a whole lot better than the 14/38 gearing. More top end but still has that hit down low. I am doing a 416 this week so i don't know how it will be. I will let you know.

i run stock gearing on my 426 but ive only ridden it like two hours total thanks to the bearing carrier...and axle nuts...would stepping up to a 39 rear give me much more on top?

no castor,

going bigger on the rear, gives a tad more low. Smaller on the rear, means faster.

i run stock 15/38. 23/22 tire set up.

tire size affects gearing also, what tire size are you running?

No. It'll pull away happilly from low RPM as long as there's not a big load on it.
