I used 320 then 400 then 600 then 1000 then 0000 steel wool. Finished it up with hollywoods polish. Looks nice but took a looooooong time. I cut the paper into strips and used a back and forth pulling motion (think using a towel on your backside).
Mine are AC Pro Pegs. I had to sand them because they have a very rough finish to them from the factory unless you get the polished ones.
I'll get pics if I polish them up soon.

I started at 600 on mine and worked my way up to 1000, then buffed with mothers. When you're polishing alluminum the more time you put into it the better it looks. If you do a half @ss job it'll look half @ss.

Quadjunkies. The one on the left is the one 1/2 through polishing. I used 400, then 600, then 1500 grit. Then finished with blue magic chrome polish. It took almost 15hrs per nerf. Mine had a lot of imperfections from AC.

That was the first thing I ever polished. And if it is the same for you, I suggust starting with something other than the nerfs. They are hard to do. And take a ton of time.

You can't really tell from the pic that the one on the left is the polished one very good. But if you look real close you can tell it is a lot smoother than the other one.

I just use the blue magic and rag on my aluminum parts..I don't waste much time on them because they'll be dull again after 2 races in the mud....but lots of elbow grease, rags and polish of your choice will make a big difference.

HOLY COW> 15 hours per nerf?? wowo, that is alotof work... mine look horribel right now (ac nerfs) ill have to take a pic of mine and show you sometime, they look no where near as nice as either one of yours in the pics do, the finish is way dif lookin...:( they look real nice,.........So rico, all that work and Id have mine lookin dull again after only afew rides huh...What is Blue magic? Ive never heard of this.... IS it better than mothers?>

Mine could still use some work. I kind of messed around alot because I didn't know what I was doing. I would switch back and forth from 400 to 600 a lot. Which was a waste of time. I also should have started out with something a little harsher than 400. The nerfs were pitted a lot around the bends. Its also pretty hard getting into all the little corners.

I got the blue magic from the local Ace Hardware. Comes in a light blue containter.

a good way to keep your stuff polished.....take clear polyurethane and cover your nerf with it..... it will keep the air from getting to the metal and it will keep them polished....you won't have to keep polishing them

I like Wenol polish for aluminium. I have spent many hours and for a quick job it does the best.

Otherwise sand and then do it for better results. I like to get down to like 3000 grit. That stuff feel soft. It takes time for a good look.

I just recieved my nerf's yesterday. I thought they looked a little shinier on the website. I was wondering if anyone else bought them and polished them? If so can you post a pic of them or tell me the procedure you used.

I did notice the actual finish is nice and smooth, I just want it to shine more like my chrome a-arms do

Nerf bars isnt something that I bother to polish 100% cause there gonna get scratched up so I just do a clean up polish with either rouge polish or Meguiars chrome or aluminum polish. When your not looking to get it 100% you can get away with allmost anything that will pull the dirt out.

Sorry but I dont have any close ups of the nerfs polished, see how this works.
