Lightly heat the bolt. Not to much though.....At all worst get ready with a drill and easyout

what ever you do i wouldnt use a torch to cut it off. I would try more with the vise grips but if that doesnt work then to down to sears and but a thing that removes stripped nuts/bolts. I forget what they are called but all it is is a little socket shaped tool with spirals that cut into the bolt when you turn it counterclock wise. If you dont feel like doing that then you could take the bracket right off the bearing carrier/axel and then you could use a torch more easily but using a torch there is going to be a pain cause its a tight fit around it and one slip and youv have screwed up the caliper.

Good luck

Easy out is just 2 drill bits, the first one yu drill into the stripped bolt, and the second one has a reverse spiral on it, just take it and tap it into the hole you drill with the first bit, then you can put a small wrench on the end of the easy out and turn it out.
Hope that helped ya out a lil bit. they only cost like $2 or somthing like that. you might also want to try a 12pt socket, sometimes they grab a little better, but probably wont makea difference. I would just go with the easy out. any auto parts place usually has them IE: autozone, pepboys, parts america, etc.

Try using a six point(the one that looks the same as bolt head) socket on it, looks like there is some left to bite on...If not use a punch and hammer.....put the punch on the side, and tap it tell it turns....remember righty tighty, lefty loosey......

to use an ease out drill a small hole in the bolt the screw the ease out in the back the bolt and ease out out but do not break the ease out off up in the bolt they are extremely hard and almost impossible to drill out .

just another thought but try to take an air grinder and make a slot in the top for that screw driver and just unscrew it.

take a dremel cut a groove into it and use a screwdriver to get it out that usually what i do when vice grips an dmechwrenches dont work

Use the easyout but DO NOT HEAT it not even to break the seal it will take the strenght right out of your spindle.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I deff. won't use heat and i think i'll try the screwdriver thing first. i'm kind of hesitant about it because the bolt head seems somewhat soft. but its' worth a shot. i'll keep you updated, thanks a lot for the tips

well i tried using the flat head, that didn't go good. it stripped on the outside now. i tried it twice at two different angles. im not sure what to do next, maybe i'll try again at another angle, or try one of those easy-outs. (i hear they aren't so easy)
lol, thanks again guys

go out to a sears and look for a set of tools. i dont think they sell mech wrenches anymore so just look for a tool that has little bumps one it instead of a regular wrench bumps look like this ( they will grip the flat part of the bolt instead of the edges where it is easier to strip

you could try using that screwdriver and a hammer....and try to break it loose.....looks pretty mean

We use easy-outs when there's a stuck screw or bolt in our jets. They work awsome. Drill a hole big enough to get the easy-out about 1/4 way in, tap it with a hammer to seat it, and then turn it carefully but firmly with the handle it comes with, or some vice grips. They come in lots of sizes, just match one up to the bolt (small end needs to be a little smaller than the shank of the bolt).

well tomarrow i'm gonna make myself a tool. i'm gonna make basicly a flathead screwdriver with a 90degree angle to get a lot of leverage. it'll work if i can get grooves deep enough in the bolt head. if not, im off to sears. i'll keep you posted...

so you aint got novise grips

tack weld a non stripped nut to the stripped one and back it off with the proper socket.

Castor-426ex

thats a good idea...ought to be easy to get in there with a mig

NTPracing22
04-06-2003, 03:52 AM
yeah i have vice grips...but they do no good gettin in there, its a tight area.

good idea Skot, thanks! maybe i'll try that after my 'new tool' idea. lol

NTPracing22

well i got it off, finally! the winning tactic goes to...Skot! well kinda..i tried welding a new bolt head on, but it wouldn't hold. so it fell off and there was a little bead from the welder left on the stripped bolt..forced the 12mm socket onto it and got my longest socket, with a pipe at the end (for leverage) and it finally came off! thanks for all the tips guys..now i gotta get my brakes working (thats the whole reason this thing started)

thanks again guys, keep the rubber side down

When you put a new bolt in that hole.....PUT SOME NEVER SEIZE ON IT!!!!!!!!!

NTPracing22
04-07-2003, 09:03 AM
never seize on a bolt? what will that do?

skinrider440
04-07-2003, 09:10 AM
it will stay tight but won't lock up and it is really called Anti-sieze

NTPracing22
04-07-2003, 09:21 AM
ooh i gotcha...this was stripped when i got to the bolt, the last owner put it back on stripped, or stripped it putting it on. but i see what your saying, thanks
