400ex chain???

does anyone know how to tighten a 400ex chain. i am goin ridin tomororw wit my friend. he is usiin his bros 400 but the chain is loose. please help

in the back on the swing arm are two allen key bolts. lossen them and to the left is a round thing with 3 slots. put something that wont break in one of the slots and pull back to spin the axle carrier and the chain should tighten. dont forget to retighten the allen key bolts when your done.

On a 400 there's 4 bolts,loosen them and turn the carrier down to tighten.There should be 1 3/8 inch slack on it,no more no less.To measure this get a tape measure and put it on the swingarm skidplate support bracket which bolts to tyour swingarm between the upper and lower run of the chain.Push the chain down and see what it reads,lets say its at 3 inches,which is where mine is,when u lift the chain for an upper measurement it should be at 4 3/8 inches.Take your time and get this right,if its too tight you'll chew up your sprockets and stretch your chain,worse case scenario you'll bend the countershaft which will earn the 2 of you a severe a** kickin from your friends bro.

Thats not right,i have an 02 also and there's 4 swingarm pinch bolts.2 near the sprocket and 2 near the caliper.Ive seen 99's through 03's and theyre all this way,why would honda make a couple models with 2 and the rest with 4?:huh Are you sure you dont have a 250r?

nope i have an 02 400ex could ya take a picture if possible cuz all my buddies only have two pinch bolts also... do you have an aftermarket swingarm:confused: :confused: :ermm:

Ok at first i thought you were bull s***** but now im curious as to whats going on here.I have a stock swingarm and ive only ever seen 4 pinch bolts on the 400's.Mine is stock too.No pics right now,cant find my cord running from cam to puter.Start a thread or a poll and see what every1 else says.

My 03' has 4 bolts as well. I have never seen one with only 2!:huh
