Sorry guys, the pics suck. If it is sunny tomorrow I will get pics of it out in the sun.

I Media blasted it, than sanded with 400 grit, than 800, than 1000 and finally followed by 1500 grit. Once the sanding was done out came the compounds. 4 different compounds before getting to the final polishing compound. So to answer you question in simpler terms, I polished it. Only took about 3-4 hours to get into every little tight spot there is on the bottom of the thumb throttle.

I bought this off of Ebay. it looked like someone had tried to Powder coat it but when they did the clear they over cooked it and turned it yellow. So the just sprayed it with black paint to cover it up and than sold it. The top cap,(once I got all the junk off of it) looked like when they sandblasted it (or what ever they did) had took off about a few layers of the aluminum. Big old gouges and was no where near smooth. It was ugly.

What would be the best compounds to use when doing that??

Once after I got all the old paint and the crapy PC job removed. I started off with 400 grit sand paper to smooth it all down and remove as many of the deep scratches as possible. After that I went to the buffer with it. Started off with a Sisal wheel Useing a Emery compound, than switched wheels to a Spiral sewn useing the same compound. Than switched to another Spiral sewn wheel and used Tripoli compound. Next switched to another Spiral sewn wheel useing Blizzard compound. Now for polishing it I used a Loose wheel with Jeweller's Rouge.
So:
1st.- 400 grit sand paper
2nd.- Emery compound
3rd.- Tripoli compound
4th.- Blizzaed compound
5th.- Jewellers Rouge

Hope this help.
