Need even more reason to insist your Legislators do something to help the OHV Riding Community this year?

NYS DMV Data Services recently released revised statistics for ATV registrations for 2002 year-end. The revision upward is now more in-line with what we expected based on the sales increases experienced by the state's dealers: ATV registrations grew by 27% (not 19% as previously reported) for a total of 125,357 machines registered. The gross income from ATV registration to the state's General Fund was therefore $1,253,570. This brings the grand total of registrations fees collected since 1986, with no return to the state's riders for trails, to $7,324,240, or $8,507,817 when adjusted for inflation. Furthermore, April registration renewals should result in at least another $1,250,000 added to the insult.

(Points of reference: Average annual growth in registration since the beginning of the legal requirement in 1986 is 17%; since 1997, 28%; highest growth was in 2001 at 42%.)

An updated full article on the subject including a year-by-year growth-revenue table is available at www.nysorva.org/documents/RegFeesCollected-unused.pdf.

You can be most effective right now by working with your local club or regional association, who will in turn work with State Legislative members to move our issues forward in the Legislative agenda.

Also, AMA/ATVA has updated their online letter-writing application to help you individually advocate for Trail Funding. The web-based toll linked above identifies your Legislative Members based on your address and creates letters for you that you can email or print off your computer to mail or fax.

Pay the $15 and get a tag.. Then write letters, lot's of them!

The more registered quads, the more clout we'd have..

I'd be willing to bet that only 1 out of 5 quads in the state are registered.

If they were all registered then we'd stand a MUCH better chance of having places to ride.

Or I guess you could just whine about having no place to ride.

If some of you want to email Alex and ask him to please put you on the emailing list I'm sure it won't be a problem. Not only will you be keep up to date on whats happening in our state and around the US. , But he does a great job on letting you about all kinds of Atv events. :D and I don't always post and share those

right now the money goes into lala land (aka the general fund)..

more registered quads = more pull.

A politicians only concern is keeping there crazy salaries and cushy offices, right or wrong never enters into the equation.

BUT if we get enough of these machines registered, and make enough noise THEN we stand a chance. Once they realize there are enough people willing to pull together against them.
