I don't know if any others noticed the large abundance of front spindles on ebay lately. I called my sponsor/dealer up today and got some more info on what is going on. If any of you have ever had to buy a spindle in the past, you'll recall they are well over $100 bucks each. Apparently, Honda is selling the 2003 for $50 or $60 now for some reason. So don't get burnt and go support your local Honda dealer!!

Doesn't really sound like a scam to me, just a good idea if they are selling them for close to list! Maybe I should upgrade my R to 400ex spindles. Can you still keep the R brakes? If I remember right the R has bigger calipers.

Getting products cheap and selling them for more than what you paid for them...thats not a scam...its ebay!

Maybe I'm too honest huh! Selling them for 300% mark-up by advertising in the auction that they are $150 each, I think that's a pathetic way of making money. I'd rather give others little tid-bits like this or help others out when it comes to quads I guess. We all know building up a nice quad and racing is very hard on the pocket book already! Heck, I plan on stocking my race trailer full of spare parts to help not only myself out, but anyone at the track, no matter if they beat me every race or not! I guess I'm too nice.

Upgrade the R, I believe all you need is a caliper mounting bracket.

i love selling stuff on ebay...its so great ppl get into bidding wars and pretty soon it ggets to the point where they dont even care about the product anymore, just beating the other guy out:confused2

Exactly! There have been a few times on ebay where I've gotten in a bidding war, then had to step back and say "woah... I'm getting pretty close to what these things cost new at any old cycle shop". If people overpay, it's their fault for not checking into what they cost. I do appreciate heads up on these things though. I saw those spindles and decided they cost too much to bother with an upgrade for my R, now that I know they are cheap at dealers, maybe I'll pick up some.
Also, deals like that don't last for long. If they are $50 at the dealer and that guy is selling them for $150 on ebay, pick up about 20 pairs and sell them for $100, and steal all his business, while making yourself a 100% return. It's the American way! :D
P.S.- where do you get the caliper bracket for the EX/R conversion?

Hello Guys:

Actually the 250R and the 400EX spindles are not quite the same, although you can put EX spindles on an "R".

The 400EX has a kingpin angle of inclination of 12 degrees, while the 250R angle is 8 degrees. That means the 250R handles a little quicker & more precise, but he EX could possibly be a little more forgiving to the average rider.

Pretty similar though, but I wold rather have the 8 degree angle. BTW, the Suzuki has the 8 degree angle also.

Just thought you might want to know! Maybe we should make some!

If you do, make sure to twist the tie rod mount a tad more - that will resolve the tie rod end binding problem a lot of us encounter.

FWIW, always check 2002-2003 part numbers when ordering 400EX parts - it's not just the front spindles that are cheaper.

Also remember that the 400EX spindles are weaker than the 250R's!

Hello guys:

We would have to cure the bending problem. Actually I would worry less about the aluminum upright than I would the steel spindle. The material & heat treating could be very tricky.

Why do most of the pros run EX spindles on their R? How big is the weight difference? I don't want to weaken my R to save a half pound or anything!

I planned on buying some as well. Will they be listed for $50 or $60 on partsfinders online??

I have been looking at the 400EX front end setup. Spindle wise. I really havent seen any good reason to convert my 88 250R to the 400ex setup. The stock 250r has worked great so far. Only difference I can tell is the look better. Whats the difference and pros and cons that you guys have noticed???
Great thread by the way!
