Has anyone shaved the flywheel on a 400ex? Make any difference?

From what I understand lightening the flywheel allows it to rev faster. It has less mass to push. I have heard of guys with 440's doing it to make it rev closer to stock. Hope that helps

i've heard that it revs faster, but you lose a little top end power. OVerall not worth it.

lrd says you loose a little low end which a 400 ex can afford anyway but it revs faster ,i have it on my 440 it revs faster than stock not as fast as a suzuki 400, i like the power gain , did notice some loss on bottom but not terrible-got pull mid to high

I lightened the flywheel on my 452x and it hasn't lost power anywhere. It acclerates much harder and faster because there is a smaller rotating mass connected to the crank. How much weight do they take off of the 400ex? I only took off roughly 10 oz. and it was a big difference.

mines shaved also and it made a nice difference and was worth the money I think...from faster acceleration to no bogging down when climbing hills...Been 2 years and running strong..:macho

Shaving the flywheel will have NO effect on the power output of the motor. It does, however, allow the engines revs to rise and fall quicker translating into faster acceleration and increased engine braking.

The only downfall of this process, IMO, is that the quad will be easier to stall.
