Does anybody or has anybody changed out the stock shocks for possibly some adjustable factory shocks onto the 250EX, my boy is getting beat to death with the stock shocks but he is not ready to go up to say a 300EX or any quad with a manual clutch on it so please do not say to get rid of the 250 for something else.
I am probably dreaming for such an easy fix but it does not hurt to try.

Thanks,

How old is your boy?

He is 9 years old, big enough for a larger bike but is just not ready for a clutch and I do not want to push him onto a clutch and get into a tight spot and end up getting hurt, that just ruins all the fun.

The 250 sounds good for him. As for shocks, I know that Works (maybe more) makes some. Someone on this site has them on their 250. I forget who though.

I know what you mean about the stock shocks. They leave a lot to be desired. They were also beating my wife to death so we ordered some Works shocks. Just got them this weekend and put them on and they feel WAY better than the stockers. It's so muddy here we didn't get much seat time on them, but I know they will be much better. We didn't get the rezzies so they weren't that expensive either. Check out my website for pics.

The banshee front shock is said to fit on the rear of the 250EX. You might see if you can get one of them for your boy.

I hear you guys. Man, new shocks are next on my list. I just read the review in ATV Action about putting ELKA's on the 250ex, but I think they were like $500.

By the way, do rezzies make much difference? Is it worth is to buck up for the rezzies? Thanks again guys.:D

I think the rezzies are worth it if you like to get air and ride fast. My wife really doesn't do either which is why we didn't get get them.

I put a Banshee front shock on the rear of my wife's 250EX. It bolts right in. It is a bit shorter than the stock shock, so it lowers the quad about an inch. Then, it is a little softer, so it gives about 1 inch of sag with no rider on board. It works very well for her, she weighs about 110. I have ridden it and jumped it about 3 feet of air onto flat ground. I don't think I bottomed it out, but I am sure it was close. I weigh about 220.

I also installed some works dual rate shocks with no rez on the front. They are setup for a 130 pound rider. That is as low as Works will make them. They help smooth out the front considerably.

Would i be able to send in a banshee shock and get elka to rebiuld it to my weight and stuff or would it be better to do that with the stock rear shock. How much does this usually run if anybody knows. thanx

hey. i am hopefully gettin a new quad later this spring so i dont want to put too much money into my quad, but does a banshee shock help that much. if i am hittin jumps topped out will it bottom out. i weigh about 125.

The Banshee shock will not help with jumping. It will probably increase your chance of bottoming out. The Banshee shock only helps smooth out the ride for casual trail riding and duning.

The Banshee shock is not rebuildable.

I have to agree that the stock 250ex shocks are horrible, I think that the works shocks will be my next big purchase!:D

What about a 300ex shock in the rear? It will fit, but will it help with jumping?

Are u sure that the rear will fit? Where did u get ur information? Do you have a pic of it all?

The 300ex shock is still a little softer than the 250ex. I am looking into the Z-250 rear shock. Those have reservoirs that are sort of like the stock 400ex's. I am also looking at the fronts because they are adjustable.

how is the 300 softer? and i thought 300 shocks were adjustable or is that jus thte front

Do you have a 300ex shock on it right now? If the 300 works then u would be able to put a raptor shock on there i would like to do that if it worked but other ppl said it wouldnt

I measured my 250 shock and i got it to be 14.25 inches, but maybe im wrong. And yea, the 300 shocks are adjustable, forgot to mention that, but i would still go wih the z-250 shock b/c of the reservoir, I just dont know if you could find a used one b/c the machine is so new, and everyone knows the cost for factory parts are pretty high.

well i am not sure but i think the warrior rear will fit. i got the measure ments and they said that the warrior shock is about 13 1/2 inches tall. and the mounts are about 1" wide. so that will lower the rear end and all you would need is an 1/8" washer on each side of the shock mount. the only thing is will the warrior shock be to soft going from being angled with a linkage( i think) to basically straight up with no linkage. i think i am goin to test it out soon and i will let you know

today i was just foolin around and i tossed and extra cr80 rear shock on my quad. it actually works pretty good. it lowerd the rear end by about 2" and its a much better ride. it is softer but i didnt bottom ova the whoops. so i think i might keep it on for a little while.
