I'm trading in my Beartracker soon on either a 300EX or Warrior. I'm not really looking for "which one is better". I just need to know the good's and bad's on the 300EX. How well does it climb? How well can it go through mud? How hard is it to maintain? Has anyone had any serious problem's with theirs? Thanks in advance.

I owed a 300 for a year and here is my two cts...

Its a great trail machine. Easy to handle on the ground and in the air. Itll out accelerate a Warrior in the first few gears and is only a few MPH slower.

Its not a bad hill climber.

I beat the dog do do out mine for that year and never had a problem. I only put gas in it and changed the oil and filter. It was a good little machine. The Warrior is larger and feels heavy. Im not a big jumper, but Im not comfortable jumping the Warrior at all. The Warrior never felt right with me. Although, there are many owners on here that swear by the Warrior, too.

Go to your dealer and sit on both of em. Test drive em if you can.

Too bad I'm 14 and they won't let me test ride them. I'm probably going to get one used so I would most likely be able to test ridse them that way though. Thank ya'll.

LOL, that's my icon on AIM. I'm about 5' 10". Do you think the 300EX would be too cramped for me?

:) I own a 03 300ex im 6 feet and i thinkh its all around better than the warrior. All you need to do is spend about $500 and get it jetted a pipe and a filter and youll be set it will run like a champ. The warrior is early 90s technology the 300 is much better.

Well, I'm really not worried about getting bored with the 300EX like I did with my Beartracker. Heck, if the 300ex is any faster than my little sister's Suzuki Quadrunner 160 it should be a blast. The main thing I am looking for is something to throw around the trails that you can count on not breaking. Honda seems pretty good in thoase categories. And if you're 6 feet tall, Bada**300, it should be fairly comfortable.

No, I'm 6'2" and I rode a 250x(same chassis and earlier version of 300ex motor) for 2 years in motocross and xc racing. I loved that machine! They are the most at home in the woods because they are a short wheelbase quad that turns very well and very sharp. They do everything well in the woods.
For racing, they need some mild engine mods, aftermarket shocks, tires (20" rears) and skidplates.

Pros-Reverse, good bottom end, good wheelies, good acceleration, suspension better then warrior, good handling, easy to mod

Cons-low top end speed, ugly handleba plastic(easy fix) i cant really think of any more

Pro: suspension
Con: suspension

It's spot on for the casual riders like trail riders small jumps, but as soon as you start to push it (more than 6-7 feet of air or hard woops) you'll find the limits. Reverse is a pain at first but easy to get in and out of after you get used to it. Love mine but I still wish I had a Dale

True, 400ex's do everything the 300ex does better except back up.:D My 250x would beat Warriors consistantly if I'd work at it. My 400ex doesn't make me work hard to pass them, if they are not behind me already.

Bottom line:
Buy either Honda and you won't be sorry. Compare what mods are available for each one to upgrade in the future, and you will soon see that the Honda's have way more available for them compared to Yamaha because these are the most popular machines with competitive riders.

What's the best kind of pipe for a 300ex?

Big Gun! it sounds really sweet. that's what i have. i also have a Supertrapp. it sounds pretty good too. i'm actually sellin it because i already have the Big Gun. get a 300. my dad had a Warrior and a 300 and my friend has a Beartracker. i rode all 3. i can't say much about the 300 because it's modded and i haven't ridden a stock 300. it turns really sharp, it's easy to shift(i HATED the 250's shifter), the Warrior is heavy. if you ride trails you shoudl find mud. it might just sink. it powerslides pretty sweet. the Beartracker didn't have any power, and i hated how it felt. the 300 is really comfortable. i'd say 300.

cons: lil underpowered, wont beat a 400EX, suspension bottoms quickly

pros of cons: pipe, jet, And 330EX kit are cheap

Not in a drag race(stock for stock), but it will in MX or XC racing. Honda handling makes this happen.

I'm not a fan of DG, but I do believe they produce the best head pipe because theirs extends out about 6" from the motor before turning. These pipes seem to perform very well.

For 300ex motor work I'd choose TC or Curtis Sparks for sure, as they used to build alot of 250x motors for the nationals. Experience counts. TC makes kits you can buy too, I'm pretty sure.

Heres the deal, the 300EX is a great quad, no doubts about it. Maintenance is as easy as brushin ur teeth and wiping ur arse. You'll love ur 300 for about a day, when you will find that you should have waited and spent a few hundred more dollars and got a 400EX. First you'll notice ur down on horsepower, you'll be looking for more power. But that really doesnt matter when your riding in the woods, you cant get maxxed out on most tracks, and trails, so it comes down to pure skills. One guy could have a Duncan Racing 440EX but if he doesnt have the skill to ride it fast, all that horsepower doesnt mean chit. I like my 300EX, the only thing I hate about it is, its needs more horsepower. The stock suspension sux, I pushed it so hard Im surprised I didnt crack my frame. So I got 400 a-arms, custom works triple rate shocks, and a raptor rear shock. So now my suspension is up to parr, and I can go alot faster on the trails, and hit bigger jumps and be able to take the landing. But now I really REALLY need more power. I have no way of getting another quad now, I cant sell my 300, because my dad payed for most of it. Im either going to sell my motor and get a 350X motor or mod my 300 motor. The 300 is a good quad, if you do get it, get suspension for it, you'll be able to do nething ur buds do on their 400s, I can ride faster on my 300 then people on their 400s, it all comes down to skill.

I still say wait and try to get a 400EX

same thing here i jus got no money to mod it

and howd u get tripple rates for a 300EX?

Live2Ride300
03-30-2003, 11:57 AM
I have 400EX A-arms and works shocks which are 14 and 3/4 inches long. They were dual rate, but I just added another spring to them. I have ELKA springs on them. They work great, I love my set up.

Brad
03-30-2003, 12:12 PM
did u try the dual rates before u put the extra spring on? if u did how were they?

Live2Ride300
03-30-2003, 12:16 PM
Ya, they worked great when they were dual rates, I really havent gotten ne riding time in since I made them triple rate, so I'll tell you how the triple rates are as soon as I get some riding time on them.

You'll love the 300, I actually don't mind the power either, It has pretty decent power, and if u want more u can always make it a 330. The only thing I think it needs is a couple more gears, I find that I'm not disappointed with the power but when I am trying to go fast, I always run out of gears.:devil If only they had a six gear:mad: Any how u should make out well on the 300

Mabey cheaper with motor work requiring crank work.

310 and 330 kits are available from most motor builders. From my experience, choose one builder to do your motor and pipe so that each mod compliments the next. Some build for low end grunt, and some go for power in the higher rpms.

And don't neglect your suspension, as the stock motor is easily capable of punishing stock shocks to the point that the motor can't be riden to it's potential.

Just some opinions of mine.

I personally LOVED my 300ex!!:blah I powered up and went to the 400ex for mostly dunes... Now Im 5-10 also, and personally I felt pretty cramped, I feel more proportioned on my 400ex now, but my 300ex rocked on hill climbing I rode it for all it was worth, but I have had a few times where being underpowered got me into some trouble so I knew it was time to power up..;) A far as pipes go, there are alot of good pipes out there, but I am a big Yoshi fan so I had a full system Yoshi on mine it had a great power curve from top to bottom..

I just got a 96' 300EX last weekend & LOVE IT!!!!! It's got a FMF megamax p/s, K&N air filter, w/ air box lid removed,wheel spacers in front & 18"turf tamers in rear. It get's up & goes, & what a plush ride, I'm coming off of a Blasterw/ no suspension, I would go w/ the 300 just because it's a Honda!!!!! JMO :) :D

All of ya'll that are saying it's underpowered, I'm really not worried about that. I mean, coming from a Beartracker with a 230cc engine that weighs 450 pounds, the 300 is going to feel like a rocket. But thanks to all of you!

Pros-handling, suspension, reliability, brakes

Cons- can develop cracks around shock mounts from hard jumping (I got them from MX racing), carb. is in a really bad spot, not enough power for racing (which you don't have to worry about).

RIDER11X
03-31-2003, 06:04 PM
Those cracks that you speak of seem to develop quickly when the suspension gets bottomed out frequently. Mine had similar problems in the footpeg area of the frame. Buy good shocks if you bottom alot.
