View Full Version : and there it goes. need new tranny already!
holy ****! i'm sick of this! i get this 300. i love it. i ride it for 3 hours. it is way faster than a stock 400. it is AWESOME. my clutch started to get weird. i had it 6g rmp and pulled it out in first and it stalled:huh. then i started it up and tried it again. then it wouldn't even pull out. my neutral light was off and the clutch was out and my hand was off of it. then i pulled it in and downshifted. i started pullin it out and i heard some clinking and other noise. i shut it off for a couple mins. tried to start it and it wouldn't. i put the reserve on. nothing. then i tried again and it was fine. so i ride a little more and took it home. then later that night for my b-day party my friends want to see it. so i got it out. my shifter was real loose. i punched it out of my garage. and my driveway it probably 50 feet long or so. i didn't even realize it but i felt my tires come down when i let off to turn down the street. i wheelied my whole driveway. but anyway, i got down the street first gear wheelied. shifted on a wheeli to 2nd and rode it for a lil. then engine rmp's got high. so i was goin to shift to 3rd. and i almost went over the bars. i pulled the clutch in to shift. didn't shift. i pulled it off the rode. i jumped up as hard as i could. didn't budge. then i realized it wouldn't go into neutral. i tried reverse adn that didn't work either. brought it to the garage. looked at the shifter. nothing. went back out. same prob. took it back. i was really upset. my dad put it up on the jack. took the left side of the engine off. nothing. then my dad reaches his finger in a small place and pulls out a grinded up tooth. that can only mean one thing, it's deep in the tranny. so cousin's friend is comin over to take it apart. i need the cases split. this is just a big mess. i raced my friend up the powerlines and i thought he didn't have it pinned. they are 1/4 on a slight uphill. i look back and he's already 30 feet behind me on the 400. i slowed down and i heard he had it in 4th gear and he was almost hittin rev limiter. then i gunned it and easily pulled away. the Big Gun sounds SO SWEET! but. i only have 1st and 2nd gear. so i don't want to ride it and screw it up even more. yesterday was 60 degrees. today there is already 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground:mad:! AH! my cousin's friend will do labor for half price. and parts wont' be that much. i think i busted a took off somewhere in the tranny. o this SUCKS!

what is your 300 bored to that its killin 400s...the tranny problem sounds liek it sucks
it says 281 on my engine case. that's all i can tell you;)

it's dirty. i need to wash it. i can't cause it's 30 degrees and snowin outside and i dont' want water to get in the gaskets cause i didn't put it all back together yet. i didn't have enough time to put the works on yet

well i only got to ride it about half a day my bearing carrier is shot and the new one hasnt come yet
It hauls youll really like it i bet especially with that cam
My next toy is a carb and porting...
i only got to test it against a stock 400 with a wb slip on, a blaster and a bored out 250x
Neither machine could get close
The stock 400 heldclose till i hit midrange in any gear
note that it wasnt a hard drag race...but we just gradually throttled up

and another. all of my money that i had saved up for graphics, and new plastic just went down the drain. i'll be havin this plastic for quite a long time.

Yea, I am the guy who trx250ex raced on his 300. I was on trx's dad's stock 400 and trx on the 300. We raced a few times and he always go the better lane. I just spun. Once we got even traction though, he pulled away from the 400. We had some wheelie contests and that thing wheelie's like crazy. I have rode it first hand and would take it over a 400 in it was in running condition. Any of you other 300's should race him and find out how fast it actually is. Ofcourse, once he gets the tranny done.

i know what it is but i wont spoil it...trust me it will take a 400...its modded out by tc and l all of you know they do good work...i can tell you its far from stock lol.
I learned my lesson with my 300ex , now when i go to buy a quad i make sure its stock or near stock and the motor hasn't been touched.

tants he has to have a 300ex... they aren't 16 so they have to be under 300ccs to race around here;)
i dunno y u all are giving this kid such a hard time... i've met him and his dad in person b4 and both are really nice and cool people... even bought me and my friend pizza at the mall...

i can wheelie through gears 1-4 on the 300. tried it on the 400 and it didn't have enough power to stay up. if i got high and i let off and hit the gas again it would come down. on the 300 the opposite happened. i hit the gas when it came down it and gets it up really easy so you can't hit it too hard. the 300 is much more comfortable than the 400. it wheelies better. the brakes are better. there is more power. it's smaller and easier to throw around and adjust in the air, the shocks are adjusted to fit me, it's lighter, sounds better, and looks better. now why would i take a 400 over mine?

you obv dont know what your talking about. i used to be able to wheelie threw 1-5th gear on my almost stock 300ex (only had a pipe) it just depends on the rider. if you think the 300 is an all around beter quad then the 400 your insane. go to a track and you'll see most people ride 250rs and 400exs. if the 300 was almighty like your claming it to be then the track would be swormed with em. enough... good luck with the quad

i'm not sayin it's great and almighty. that's not what i meant. what i mean is i personally would pick the this 300 over a stock 400. you'd have to ride the 300 to see what i mean. i must sound crazy:rolleyes:. the 400 does have it's strong points. it's newer, better plastic, it might out jump the 300 with it's Works, the front end is easier to keep down when you gun it:blah, and it's bigger for people bigger than 5'4 like me. i fit on the 300 better than the 400. all depends on what you want.

I bet its bored over 310 if its as fast and easy to blow by the 400ex as you say it is. 286cc is the stock bore is what they were talking about (its the old cylinder stock size) I could do the same thing with that little TCS thing (I have the tool that does it...) I am not trying to rag on you or anything just wanted to let you know, and what I though :D That sucks that you already blew your tranny. I was only willing to buy a stock quad, a real modified one is more likely problems... Good luck :D

uh...if i was u as soon as it was back together id sell it, u ever think the massive 355cc might be straining the tranny? what compression is it running? i dont know how thier workin it but your just plain dumb to run a 355 in a 300 class, dont u think thier gonan realize your motor isnt stock.....i think god was showing u cheating the displacement in your class is wrong, if i was u get it together and sell it and buy a real 280ex or sell your motor on ebay and buy a stock 300 motor and do it that way or you can just cheat:rolleyes: i cant beleive someone who is preachin bout god all the time was gonan cheat the displacement in his race class

i barely have enough money to put this new tranny in. i'm not blowing hundreds on a whole new crankshaft. i'm going to go to my race. if there's kids on little stuff and not serious like i am and i'm blowin them away, i'm goin to switch up to a 4 stroke open C class. i'll just race schoolboy classes.

i can wheelie my 400 through 4th u must not know how to ride one, what compression are u running? i f i was u id be pretty worried about ruining the tranny again

are you still running a stock cclutch on your 300ex???
i said 4 stroke C schoolboy that's 12-15. i'm running 10:1 compression. the old tranny lasted 7 years. i'm only askin it for 2 more with a new one in. i'm 110 pounds. i can't use my weight to wheelie. i use power. i lean back a little and punch it. on the 300 it comes right up. 3rd gear for example: if i gun the 400 in 3rd it won't ride really long so i use second. on the 300 it still has those 22" stock tires made for top speed not acceration and i punch it in 3rd and it comes right up. second it gets up then winds out. it's to snappy to just gun it. i tried that one. i almost flipped it.

actually that's the only prob the guy had other than the tranny. he bought a WB hydraulic clutch cause the guy before him burnt the clutch out. it's 7 years old what do you expect? it was raced.

well the 300 has a smaller wheel base and if u know how to wheelie u can wheelie anything no matter what u weigh, u still cant run anything bigger than a 300 no matter what class cuz your too young , u sure that school boy class is for quads not bikes.....if its only 10:1 then its not hurting the tranny but id be pissed at the guy who sold me the quad

i think the schoolboy class is for outlaw. my dad said that he'd send me to Raucsh this summer and go to a school. and i could race outlaw and go to practice a lot or something. outlaw would be fun. i dont' think outlaw has an age limit. i'll have to ask Tommy.

Yo TRX, You cannot really ride that 400. No offense, but you can't wheelie. Did you see how I could wheelie just as long as you 300. I have only rode it like 3 times. Once you could get used to it, the 400 could wheelie better. The 300 does come up really easy though and stays up longer. The power is just amazing.

yeah i raced my 400 when i was 15 as long as its not sanctioned your A ok
cool. the guy is comin tomorrow to pull the enigine out and fix it. say 50 an hour under Honda. 30 to Honda 20 for the guy. the guy isn't doin this under honda so we're payin him 20 bucks an hour or so. and he'd have to pay taxes but not on this so he's making money. should be fixed but this weekend. it might rain for the first race though. i'm goin to Iron Vallye with 250X#93 and Tommy was goin to go but he had somethin to do. can't wait to get some action pics with the 300!:blah
