I bought a new Durango a couple of years ago and it is a POS. Buying a Dodge is the worst thing I ever did. I will never make that mistake again - JMHO...

i dunno i've heared good things about the chevs with the duramax or the gas motor. same with the super dutys other than my pa's boss' has gone through 2 trannys in about 55k with the power stroke. i would just read some reviews or search for some messageboards about them, i'm sure they're out there.

I know little about the new Hemi. I do like the Dodge's 4-door system if you're looking into the extended cab version. Historically, Dodge's gas mileage has always been a little worse than it's competition. My father had '88 Dodge 1/2 ton, regular cab/short bed with a 318 in it and at the time my uncle had a Chevy 1/2 ton extended cab/short bed with a 350 in it. He got far better gas mileage than my dad's 318. My mother had 2 Intrepid's: a 1994 with the 3.5 V6 and a 1998 with a 3.2 V6. They both got far worse gas mileage than her Acura with a 3.2 in it.

It's a completely new transmission.. Not at all related to the old 727 based series. It has more in common with a Mercedes..

The smaller version has been out in the Jeeps GC's since '99 and Dakota/Durang isnce '00.. With maybe 2 failures that I can think of in the shop, and both were within the first 500 miles. The thing is BULLETPROOF..

It's a 5 spd auto, and it raises the bar on auto tranny performance IMHO.

The older auto's (727 based) are garbage.

oh.. we've had zero major problems with any of the Hemi motors or the 55RFE tranny so far.. some minor software issues causing the SES light to come on, but nothing serious. No problems to speak of with any of the DR trucks.

People are reporting 10-15 w/ the Hemi, depending on who you talk to. My 4.7 varies anywhere from 12 - 22 in my Dakota depending on my mood :)

I don't care what anybody says!!, It doesn't matter if its Ford, Chevy, GMC, or Dodge. There all gonna have problems, but you could get lucky!! I've had a GMC and at 60,000, it blew a head gasket and shortly after that it blew the trany out. I've had Dodge for about 3-4 years and other than the amount of recalls this thing has had its been pretty good for me. But it still has somethings about it that I don't like. Now, My father has a 91 Ford F-350 w/the old style 7.3 and has had the trany rebuilt but you wouldn't believe the amount of snow that this thing has pushed!!!! The thing is a frigin BEAST!!!! The truck is bit on the heavy side and eats tires but so far I've seen, its Ford!! So, my next purchase is gonna be a Ford and I'll try that new 6.0, wifes father worked for Ford so we get that A-plan:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

im glad you had luck with ford:scary: i wont go into it...but never again.

i get a sweet hook up on chevy thru my association with nascar. i do like the silverado....but just starting to look around. i try to switch vehicles every 4 years...and the ol' lady's jeep is a 99 so its about that time.

i was gonna go diesel......not sure if i want that headache or not:confused2

If you are looking for a new truck go with ford they are alot better with the new tranny but the new 6l psd has been plagued with problems so give ford a year to get the bugs figured out :)

but if you do not want to go with the ford iwould go with the chev because of the allison and duramax there a good combo :D

Ford diesels(sp) are so quiet. my dads friend picked me up at school one day in a f-350 super duty. this thing was quiet. we had to go get gas and a dodge pulls up and it was very loud.. we heard it over the ford because it wasn't loud. it was a ncie truck too with carbon fiber in the cab. 42,000 too

The Cummins is a workhorse, not really meant for soccer moms and such... (JK FORD GUYS RELAX :D)

The '03 Cummins features a new fuel injection system (common rail) and you can barely tell it's a diesel. SO much nicer to ride in, you can actually have a conversation while pulling a hill ;)

i would recommened buying a new dodge the tranny problems are going away... i think my 2000 dakota slt with a 4.7 liter has the 45rfe in it and i bought it used checked it for a warranty report at my work and found that the onle thing the truck was in the shop for was new weather stripping on the doors... you would be surprised actually how much power the 4.7 has... ithink it is rated around 235 hp. and like any auto it depends on your foot.

with the older 318 motors the best thing to do with them is replace the carb with a different brand i really didn't like there holley's just my opinion

A guy I work with got one in blue. Nice truck. The only thing I don't like is the exhaust sound. Sounds like crud when he gets on it. Like it's too restricted or something. Nothing a flowmaster wouldn't fix though. Sweet truck! How do you like it so far?

The new F150 really took a big step away from being a real truck IMO.

I guess you haven't read up on the Ford 5.4L then huh? It eats up the Hemi. 300 hp and 360 ft. lbs. of torque. Detroit press called it the best pickup ever. Of course I'm talking about the F150 and it sounds like you are looking for an F-250. Of course the 5.4 is offered in the Super Duty's too. I personally think the Chevy's are ugly and the hardware is junk (handles fall off, doors won't shut, etc.). The Dodge's seem to be nice, but I still don't trust them, though that new diesel seems really nice, they are very quiet, but so are all of them now, but if you get a new vehicle every four years, then I don't think it would really matter, they will mostly still be on warranty during that period anyway, so pick your style and drive. The new F-150 also has the largest towing capacity (9,900 lbs.), has the most cargo room and interior room.
MOFO, I'm not sure what you mean by they took a big step away from being a real truck. They also are the quietest.

Oops, I missed a page, didn't see you had already bought the Hemi, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Nice looking truck.

Man I have 2 friends who own the new ford diesel and have had nothing but problems. I also have a friend who works in a ford service center and he was saying these new motors have alot of bugs to be worked out.

As far as Dodge I love my New 5.9l Diesel HO...I pull my trailer with 3 quads and 4 people and still get 13mpg up hill. I know dodge trucks are gas hungry, but this is the 3rd Dodge I have owned in 6 years and I liked all of them.

Only the 03's 6.0s have had problems..easily fixed with a reflash though. As long as ford stands behind them, which they have been. We have an '04 with the 6.0 diesel. Much more torque and power than the '00 7.3 that also sits in our driveway.

i have 2 of them in my fleet at work. i have driven them and i didnt like them. i will not own another ford ...period.

i like chevrolet....its the dealers attitudes that i can do without. service is job one and dodge has taken care of me.

im not a "mines faster then you" kinda guy so speed and power really doesnt make the sale for me. i buy a vehicle that suits my needs not what impresses the guy next to me in his truck...lmfao

yea, your right about not trying to impress anyone...but i've drove my moms hemi a few times..pretty fast, nice looks, and pretty comfortable ride..good truck, but i prefer a Ford..nothing really against chevrolet or dodge. but my dads 03 f250 w/ 6.0 hasnt had any problems, but your absolutly right pappy. u shouldnt buy a vechical just to impress someone. BTW...i may only be 13, but i actually drive quite often. I have a 1977 Toyota 2wd w/ a 4 speed and when it was running (needs a new clutch) i used to always drive it down the dirtroads and in our field. HOpe u have fun, and good luck w/ your dodge.

well i can sppeak on both ford and dodge.

i have a 03' f-150 supercrew 5.4L. i really like this truck. it has plenty of power. plenty of room and sound awesome with flowmasters. it pulled our bulldozer w/ no problem at all.

now to speak on behalf of dodge.
my pop bought this new in 93' it was the basic dakota with the v6 magnum. it currently has 350,000 miles on it. the rear end finally crapped out yesterday. it has had one transmission due to over heating problems. this winter it will be getting a 340, new transmission, drivehaft, and rear end and any other parts the need to be updated due to the extra power. it has simply been an awesome truck

Enjoy the new rig Pappy. Me likes :)

Not to harp on the "Hemi",which in its day was a real legend. But A "hemispherical head" design is very common in todays combustion chamber technology. I believe every car engine Honda makes is technically a "hemi". But Dodge did it first;)

I am not sure what caused their problem, but a flash fix for 4 trucks in a service center and my 2 friends was not capable. The motors were toast. Ford told the centers to send the motor back and not to touch it. This would be classified as a problem.

LOL Ya think:D I love it when we get letters at work; "Engineering would like to see the following..... If you have a car in your service department with such a complaint, STOP do not attempt to repair and contact Tech line for further instructions." That usually means somebody goofed some where.

I also have an '03 1500 QC 4x4 with the hemi. It has 3.55 gears and gets about 15mpg. As far as the new ford being faster than a hemi that is not true. I work second shift as well as 2 buddys who have new fords and we some times have been known to try to beat each other home. The only way the fords make it around is if I let'em. Granted with the 3.55 gears it's alittle crappy towing but I hardly ever pull anything. Just don't be saying that little 300hp 5.4 is faster than a 345hp hemi. By the way I have owned 5 new dodge rams in the last 9 years and haven't had a problem with any of them. My dads f150 has had 2 warrenty claims at 7 yes just 7 mile on the odometer.

I drove one, it was a 3/4 ton though.

The interior is nice and comfy, almost like gm's but more roomy. Dash is Kinda on the plain side though (to me anyways).

Lots of Leg room in the back too.

I would consider one, Feels like it has more balls then my chevy.

Sounds awesome, lots of power. Pretty hard on gas though according to him. Your lucky to get 13mpg. Beat some kid that was driving his 4cylider pos Cavalier laying down, with the music booming windows down half way to show off his tint. Giant discolored wing on the back.

Lmao, he got beat by a 3/4 4x4 truck. They're worth buying just for that.:D

I have a funny story about the new hemi.

I have a 69 chevy c-10.It had a pretty hopped up 350 in it.(cam,intake,carb,headers,world products heads,etc,etc)

Anyway The new hemi had just came out.I pull up next to one at a light. It's a really nice truck 1/2 ton extended cab.It had the HEMI badge.Well me being the bow tie kinda guy have to show this HEMI who's boss.

We both took off.And he nailed it just like I thought he was going to do.By this time the tach was reading 5500 and I was shifting into 2nd.The smoke was behind me and so was the dodge. As I let the clutch out I heard a thump and then my clutch pedal wouldn't move at all.Well I shut the truck off and rolled off to the side of the road.

The dodge honks as it drives by and I get out and crawl under my truck.I didn't see anything wrong with it.But the clutch was messed up.(the clutch disk was in like 3 peices.)A pull by a 2500 HD with the vortec big block home. And a new clutch.Along with a night of changing it out and I was back to racin again.Until I blew my 350 up.Now I drive a cavalier!

Nice truck pappy.I really like it.

Yeah that did suck.I did get to check out a new yfz450 on my walk home. The dealer had just got there first one.

What really sucked was when I blew that motor up.I was racing my manager in her gran grix GT.She thought it was fast.So we went out one night to a local spot.I pull out onto the strip and took the tach up to 6 grand while doing a burnout.Well It spun a main bearing.I drove it home to a buddies house and waited till the next day to try and drive it.The motor was locked up.So I had to trailer it home. And now I am building another motor.Which sucks cause I just built that one.

It had a scat crank and rods with forged pistons.I built it to be pretty durable.I took out the crank. But the rods are still good.(6.0 inch scats)
