whats a good setup for a 400ex for climbin hills in the trail where they are pretty sllick and barely any run for them
\

what size sprockets?
tires? what size?
right now i have a full e series and 20 holeshots on the back and, my frens 300 could climb better then me cuz he was doing them in 2ns because he had lower gear and could go faster

everbody has a differnet preference to the set up of ones bike, try a 14 tooth countersproket and i think your tire size does not matter, depends on how hard do you really try on pullin those hills start in second and feather the clutch alot of time its the way someone rides. Just let er eat man and you should and could pull as much hills as anybody!! thats my opinion hope it helps. RIDERED!!!!!!:devil

just curious, what type of material is the hill? if it was sand, paddle will definitely help, and for climbing, the 14 will always help a stock 400

stock tires(seriously). Climb in 2nd gear and maybe gear down a little bit and get a k&n filter. That should make a big differance. I NEVER use 1st gear now that I got enough motor mods and smaller tires that it never bogs down.

I have sur trax tires and i can climb so many sand and dirt hills with them. They are awsome.

Don't lean out your bike unless it's running rich! Just jet it properly and let it be.
Usually hillclimbing and trails are conflicting goals. Do you have a problem with wheelspin or with keeping the front end down?

well i want to be able to climb in 2nd but there is like no run cause im afraid 1st gear wont be fast enogh, i climbed it on my firends blaster 2nd gear so should i be ok in 1st?

start it in first then when you can soon as apossible drop er in second and hold on just in case you hook up and the bike decides to go wheelie happy. but just play around with the clutch in second and feather and don't dump it if you have to even feather all the way thru the climb, first gear just raps out way to fast to me, i don't think there is any hills that i can pull in first it just don't do it for me!

This might sound goofy, but some people like to run taller gears for hillclimbing, simply because you have a larger range in each gear. Rather than use a 14t and use 2nd gear, you can use a 16t and use 1st gear. Something to think about. Other than that, the best tires I have seen for hillclimbing are the stock tires (those tires are sweet, but spendy), or a similar tire. My tamers climb real good on hardpack, but my Razrs are better in the softer stuff.
