rev boxes are worthless, power is flat after about 800rpms there is no gain. If you want to get a rev box that does soenmthign wait till wolfcdi coems out with there programbly one for the 400, you can switch it on the fly from maximum power to a slight de tune for less tire spin and more control.

Rev boxes are only useless to those that are non-duners. I'd much rather over rev the motor a little going up a steep dune face than have to abort the climb because I ran out of momentum.

Big Gun says it advances the timing

Lots of aftermarket cams make power at 9000-10,000 rpm.

With head work, the engine will breath well in this range. In this scenario, the revbox is advantageous.

but for a stock motor you wont see to much gain.....there is better $$ spent elsewere...also you have to worry about starting problems

Big Gun/ WB ect all rev boxs for the 400ex are generally the same.... i actually think its the same box thats on an xr250r dirt bike

The rev box off the xr400 works better than most aftermarket box's

I bought one and ran it for three months. I didnt like it. The extra RPMs made my valves float.

Do a easy test yourself.

make two passes on the same length of trail etc

Rev it up high on the first one and then hold it open and "feel" what the engine gives you.

On the second run shift a little sooner and "feel" it all again and make note of what happens etc.

Try it in a couple diff gears too.

I have found that the engine in mine likes to rev and hit the limiter pretty quickly in first and second (it will hit it in most gears) and will still make good power into the higher rpms in most all gears but from 3-4 and 4-5 it seems to accelerate a little faster if it is shifted a little sooner.

This can and will change from machine to machine etc but check it out cause you may be slowing youself down over revving the engine.

yeah i am not sure if they help or not. i know they help it not start. lol where could i spend that amount of money and get more of a benefit?

Very true.. I found that I was over revving in every gear. Shift sooner and get the rpms down where the torque is!

got TORQUE :macho
