8"s will give you a smoother ride but 9"s will have less tire roll, i think the only tire for mx thats come for a 9" rim are holeshots so i would go with 8"

go with 8 because you have the choice of running just about any tire they make

if you get 9" they work with stock rims

8in Pros - smoother ride, more tires availible

8in Cons - heavier, more tire roll in turns, better chance of tire popping off bead due to low PSI, more expensive cause you cant use stock 400ex rims

9in Pros - same size as stock 400 rims (cheaper), less tire roll, lighter overall, less chance of bead failure

9in Cons - harsher ride, not as many tires availible



this is why TT tires only come in 10in, they are lighter, less chance of tire popping off bead under low PSI, and since a smooth ride isnt nessesary, it dont matter

i run 9in rears

if they are bead lock dont worry about them poping off
