well in my skool u have to do a graduation project, and if u dont do one, u dont pass ... u get from 9th to 12th to do so... my first one i picked was to build an MX track, which i did and it was in last years schedual in distric four, but since their wont be races this year cuz of how much it is for insurence, $700 a race, and their were barely any rides prolly bout 30-40 quads, so that didnt go to well.... so i just changed mine and i will be makin a 426 quad .... i am goin to sell the blaster and wit the money i will be buyin a 400ex frame and the engine, and wut ever money is left is goin into the bank for it can collect intrest... so far i have me, my step dad, and his friend help work on it.... i will be takin pictures of the parts as i get them and when i get them on... this project will take at least 1 year to complete or less depends on how money is.... i already have a list oh stuff i will be buyin for it, and i have an estimated price of $6000 to make it.... i willl kepp u guys posted as much as possible...

if u have any helpful hints, please tell...

well i have estimated all the prices up on all the parts i will need, from engine down to grips, it came out around $6000.... also i will not be buyin every aftermarket part new, so the price could go down bout 100-200, also all the welding, fitting, sand blasting, powedcoating, well be for free. and if i need and part, i get a 15% discount at my local dealer, but i will mostly be buyin the stuff off of ebay or anyone that has the parts to do so..... but inorder to start i need to sell the damm blaster, if any one knos someone who wants a 2001 blaster, $1800, tell me cuz i need to sell fast, i will go as low as 1500

lol, so you don't even own a 400ex or yz426 and you think its gonna cost you 6k? Your in for a surprise bud.... First you gotta get a new quad then the cheap way of getting a motor is buying the entire bike. Yeah thats right instead of pay 4k for a motor spend 5.8k for a yzf or crf and part out the rest of the parts. So then after that your gonna have to get a ton of misc parts to fit the motor in the ex like exhaust mounts, radiater mounts, engine mounts. Also your gonna have to totally strip the quad to have it gusseted so the frame doesn't crack the first year you have it because it can't handle all the power. Plus I mean all the other things like shocks, tires, stem, bars, axle, a-arms, swing arm plus much more.

Nausty how much are 426's around you ???
Around here I can pick them up for about 3-4 grand for the whole bike. Sometimes even cheaper.

I wish I had BUILT a race quad to begin with. If nothing else, you will gain a lot of experience and skill. Good luck and happy building. :D

you can easily build a yzf 426 for around $6000. it wont be a top national calibur quad but it can easily be made for around $6000. i have 2 friends that built total national calibur 426's for under $8000. good luck with the build!
